Survey Reveales 18.4 Percent Of The Youngsters Up To Age Of 22 Suffering From Diabetes

18.4 percent of the Youngsters up to the age of 22  including school children of  Sri Lanka are suffering from Diabetes according to the latest Health Survey conducted by the Ministry Of Health.According to the survey 4.2 percent of School Children below 16 years of age ,4.4 percent belongs to the 16-18 age group and 9.8 percent of 18-22 age group are suffering from Diabetes.

Also the survey revealed that 24 percent of the women population and 19 percent of male population in sri lanka are not having any physical exercise  and prone to Diabetes.Unhealthy Diet pattern ,lack of exercises ,mental stress and obesity are  identified as  main causes of getting the disease.

Out of the sri lankan population 10 percent of the rural population and 20 percent of the urban population is suffering from diabetes Ministry Of Health added.







School Children Are Addicted To Dough Nuts?

It has been reported that 1800 Dough Nuts are sold to the School Children by a Popular Government School Cafe per every 30 minutes  according to the Ministry Of Health.Besides selling these sugary Foods another three cafes belongs to three popular government schools  are selling Thai,Chinese and Indian Varieties of Food  to School Children daily  Ministry has said.

Considering this situation Health Ministry has decided to activate the School Canteen Act with immediate effect to prevent School Children from getting Diabetes  and Obesity due to unhealthy meals and to ensure supplying them locally made healthy meals and natural fruit juices through these School Canteens Deputy Health Minister Mahinda Amaraweera has said.

Government Instructed Welikada Prison Authorities To Conduct An Inquiry On The Clash

Government instructed the Welikada Prison Authorities to conduct an inquiry on the clashes occurred today between Police Officers and Prison Inmates.During the clashes around 46 Police Officers and 2 prison inmates were injured and hospitalized.

Clashes occurred after a group of prison inmates attacked the Police Officers  who came to prison with a court Warrant  to carry out a Drug Raid in the prison..





46 Police Officers Were Injured And Hospitalized After Clashed With Welikada Prison Inmates

Around 46 Police Officers  were injured and hospitalized due to Prisoners of Welikada prison attacked them while  involved in a Drug Raid Operation in the Prison this morning.Two Prisoners too hospitalized after getting injured during the clash according to the sources.

The Clash occurred after around 4000 Prisoners in the Welikada Prison were removed from their cells.Later Police Officers had control the situation.According to the Director Of The Colombo National Hospital Dr.Hector Weerasinha Police Officers Admitted to the Hospital are having injuries to their heads,chest and abdomen and medical investigations are carried out to find out whether they have any serious internal injuries.

GCE Advanced Level Exam Results Due To Be Issued in This December

The results of the GCE Advanced Level Examination held in last August is due to issued before the December School Vacation Examinations Commissioner General Anura Edirisinha has said.

268,933 Private Candidates had  applied for  this years Advanced level Examination.



More Then 120 Houses Of SrI Lankan Refugee Camp In Tamil Nadu Damaged Due To A Fire

Some 120 houses in Sri Lankan Refugee Camp in Mottamalai of  Tamil Nadu were damaged and properties worth Rs.200,000 were destroyed  due to a fire broke out in the Camp this evening Indian Police has announced today.

There are no casualties reported due to the incident.Officials believed a short circuit may have been  caused the fire.It has been reported that three fire brigades battled nearly two hours to doused the fire.

Health Ministry Began An Inquiry On Assaulting Of A Lady Doctor

Health Ministry has appointed the Director of  Special Investigations Unit of Ministry to investigate on  the assault of a lady doctor attached to  Lady Ridgway Childrens Hospital by a father of a deceased infant.According to Director General Of Health Services Dr.Ajith Mendis Investigation on the assault of a Doctor began following a request made by  Children's  Hospital Director and few other Doctors of the Hospital.

The Report of the Inquiry is scheduled to be hand over to  Director General Of Health Services within a week's time. 


Meanwhile  father of the deceased infant who attacked  lady doctor released on bail after Police arrested him and produced before  the courts.
