All Medical Officers Of Health Stop Dengue Activities Citing System Lapses


All Medical Officers Of Health(MOH) throughout Sri Lanka are stop attending the Essential Dengue Control Activities of House to House Inspection on Mosquito Breeding Places and Special Investigations on Dengue Patients from Last Tuesday due to the lapses in Mosquito Control Programme Government Medical Officers Association(GMOA) of Sri Lanka Announced today.

Due to this action the activities of Dengue Mosquito Control Programme is going to collapse Medical Sources said.All Dengue Control Activities are performed under the supervision of MOH'S.However conducting Awareness Programmes for people on Dengue will continue Association said.

Explaining on the situation the Assistant Secretery of the GMOA Dr Upul Gunasekera said that the Ministry Of Health is not taking steps to educate Health Staff including MOH'S on the Regulations of the newly approved Mosquito Control Act and due to this MOH'S are facing difficulties to carried out their duties of controlling Dengue.

MOH of the Colombo Suburbs faced Severe Threats from a Politician in the area recently when he tried to inspect the Garden of the Above Politician to check whether there are Mosquito Breeding Places Dr.Gunasekera stressed.Dengue is on rise in Sri Lanka this year as around 8000 Dengue Patients and 63 Deaths were reported upto now.

Opposition Leader Ranil Wickramasinha Hold Talks With Former Norwegian Peace Enovy Eric Solheim


Sri Lankan Opposition Leader Ranil Wickramasinha who is in European Tour today hold discussions with Former Norwegian Peace Envoy Eric Solheim in Norway.The details of the talks are not yet known.

Meanwhile Norwegian Police removed 50 to 60 Tamil Protestors who were illegaly demonstrated outside the Norwegian Foreign Ministry in Oslo today due to the Sri Lankan Opposition Leader's visit there.

Sri Lankan Buddhist Center In London Was Attacked By LTTE Supporters


Sri Lankan Buddhist Center in Kingsbury situated in North West of London was attacked by a group of unidentified persons believed to be Pro-LTTE Supporters this morning.This Center is the Ninth Buddhist Centre to be attacked by LTTE Supporters in recent weeks.

"Attackers threw stones and broken the Front Windows of the Buddhist Center and ran away "the Head of the Sri Saddhatissa Buddhist centre Venerabal Galayaye Piyadassi Thero said.Police came to the scene few minutes after the incident but not able to arrest anyone regrading the incident Thero further added.

Meanwhile Brent Police increased the Petrol in the area and launched an Investigation into the incident.

Local Worker Of The International Red Cross Killed Due To Shelling


An International Red Cross(ICRC) worker and his Mother was killed at the New Safe Zone due to Shell Attack this Afternoon.

ICRC Spokeswoman Sarasi Wijerathna said a 31 year old local worker of the Red Cross and His Mother was killed from the Shell Attack inside the Safe Zone.

High Court Issued An Open Warrent For LTTE Leader And His Intelligance Chief


Colombo High Court today Issued an Open Warrent to Arrest LTTE Leader Valupillai Prabhakaren and LTTE Intelligance Chief Pottuamman over the Assassination of Former Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadiragamer.

Mr.Kadiragamer was assassinated on August 2005.

Prabhakaren and Pottuamman are also named as International Criminals and the Prime Suspects in connection with the Assassination of former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

Navy destroyed Four Suicide Sea Tiger Boats came to recapture the newly liberated area of No Fire Zone


Sri Lankan Navy destroyed Four Suicide Sea Tiger Boats of LTTE came to recapturing the newly liberated area of No Fire Zone in Northern Sri Lanka this morning after 4 Hours of fierce fighting.


Large Number of Attacking Crafts of LTTE came to assist the Suicide Boats went missing after the Navy attack.

The fighting erupted from 9 P.M last night when the Navy witnessed two Sea Tiger Boats entering to the sea from Coastal Area of the No Fire Zone.Fighting lasted till 4 A.M this morning according to the Security Sources.The Four Sea Tiger Boats were exploded and the exact number of LTTE Casualties are not known so far Sources added.

Two Government Politicians Were Remanded Over Allegations


Two Government Politicians were Remanded by the Sri Lankan Courts in connection with Child abducting and Shooting Incident.Parliamentarian of the Governing United Peoples Freedom Alliance(UPFA) Sarana Gunawardana was Charged for trying to abducting a Child and a Provincial Councilor Hector Bethmage was remanded in connection with a Shooting Incident.

Parliment M.P Sarana Gunawardana who was charged with Child Abduction was refused the bail by Attanagalla Court yeterday.Provincial Councilor Hector Bethmage too were remanded.

Tamil Leader Anandasangaree Said Around 26 Patients Killed On Shelling At A Hospital In Northern Sri Lanka


Tamil United Liberation Front(TULF) Leader V.Anandasangaree today sent a Letter to Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksha and said around 26 Patients of the Makeshift Hospital Mullavaikal Hospital in the Safe Zone were killed and more then 100 others injured due to a Shell Attack on the Hospital this morning.

TULF Leader urged the President to intervene and prevent any further Shelling on Civilians and send a Medical Team to the Hospital.He further mentioned in his letter that around 7.45 A.M this morning this Shell Attack occured and those Patients killed died at the spot and few minutes later others found as injured.

Anandasangaree said that over Thousend other casualties also waiting to receive medical teatment and stressed that if this attack was carried out by the LTTE Sri Lankan Government still have a Duty to save the Civilians.

Anandasangree is respected by the Sri Lankan Government as a Tamil Politician who is against the LTTE.

Pro LTTE Supporters Attacked Sri Lankan Embassy In Netherlands


Pro LTTE Supporters in Netherlands attacked the Sri Lankan Embassy there last night by using Beer Bottles.
The Windows of the Office Room of Sri Lankan Ambassador Mrs.Ashirvadan broken due to this attack and the Ambassador called Police after the Incident.
Dutch Police now providing Police Protection to the Sri Lankan Embassy and Ambassador Mrs.Ashirvadan is planning to complaint this incident to the Dutch Foriegn Secretary.Prior to this attack the Sri Lankan Embassies in Norway,India and Canada also faced similar attacks from the pro LTTE Supporters.

Sri Lankan Ground Forces Entering Into LTTE Hold New Safe Zone

Sri Lankan ground forces today captured another Earth Bund built by LTTE in the Wadduwakal causeway in Northern Sri Lanka by entering into the 2.5 Square Kilo Meter Area of the New Safe Zone occupied by the rebels.

59th Division of the Sri Lankan Army captured the above area.Troops are now advancing 300 Meters further towards LTTE Defences.

Meanwhile Army Spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said in today's Press Briefing in Colombo that around One Hundrad Eighty Eight Thousand Five Hundred(188,500) Civilians so far escaped from the Rebel Held Area and came to Government Held Area.

Around Twenty Essential Cancer Drugs were out of Stock at the Only State Owned Cancer Hospital of Sri Lanka the "Maharagama Cancer Hospital" these days Hospital Sources said.Cancer Patients are facing hardships due to this Drug Shortage Sources added.

Cisplatinum,Carboplatinam and Anesterole are among these Out of Stock Drugs and people have to spend around 400-500 Rupees per Tablet to purchase some of these Drugs according to the Oncologists.Cancer Hospital Authorities asked from Philanthropists to help these patients to purchase these requitred Drugs.

Pro-LTTE Supporters Attacked And Damaged International Buddhist Centre In Paris

The International Buddhist Centre in Paris was attacked yesterday (Sunday) by an unknown people believed to be Pro-LTTE Supporters and Severely damaged to the Building Sri Lankan Foriegn Ministry said today(11).

Attackers have been broken all the front window panes and caused Severe Damage to the Centre which is the Main Buddhist Temple of the Sri Lankan Buddhist Community in France Ministry further added.Pro LTTE Supporters in western countries began to attack Sri Lankan Property in those countries especially the Embassies opposing the Sri Lankan Government's offensive against the LTTE.

LTTE Military Spokesman Critically Injured Due To An Attack

The Military Spokesman of the LTTE Irasiah Illanthirayan has sustained Heavy Injuries during an attack in the Sri Lanka's New Safe Zone on Sunday.LTTE Media said he was injured due to an attack launched by Sri Lankan Military yesterday.

Ilanthirayan reported as not spoken to the media from sometime.

New Safe Zone In The North Came Under Shell Attack Killing 300 Ciivilians


The New Safe Zone in Mulativue District of Northern Sri Lanka Came under Shell Attack today killing around 300 Civilians in the Zone according to the News Sources.

Sri Lankan Army and the LTTE blaming each other over the attack and Army says that they are not using heavy weapons for the current offensives against LTTE in the Safe Zone since two weaks.There are also reports that LTTE Cadres wearing Civilian Uniforms launched attacks by staying among the Civilians.

Sri Lankan Government Expelled Four British Journalists Over Telecasting False News Item

Sri Lankan Government Arrested and expelled Four British Journalists attached to the ITN Channal-4 News from the Country today claiming they were broadcast a news piece through their Channal tarnishing the Image of Sri Lankan Army Perssonal.

Expelled Journalists who are producing the News Items for Channal-4 News filmed an IDP Camp in Vavuniya on 5th of May containing allegations on Sexual Abuse and Food and water Shortage in the Camp which the Sri Lankan Authorities have been denied.

Sri Lankan Authorities arrested Channal -4 Correspondent Nick Paton Walsh ,Producer Bessie Du and Cameraman Matt Jaspher yesterday and asked them to leaving the Country.They left the country today.Meanwhile Foreign Office of London today expressed their Deep Dissapointment over the expulsion of these Journalists.

Buddhists Around The World Celebrates The Birth Of Lord Buddha


Millions of Buddhists around the world Celebrated the Vesak Full Moon Poya Day yesterday which mark the Birth,Enlightenment and the Demise of the Lord Buddha the Founder of Buddhism.Thousands of devotees yesterday gathered at the Temples throughout Sri Lanka to conduct religious activities to mark this occasion.

Besides Religious Activities Pandals and Lanterns which shown the Various Buddhist Stories related to the Previous Births of Lord Buddha were built throughout the country and Alms giving centers known as "Dansala's" provide the people who are visiting to see these Vesak Pandals Meals including Rice,Coffee,Soft Drinks and Sweet Meets.Buddhist families decorated their gardens with paper buckets lighten with candles and various shapes of lanterns and colored bulbs to mark the Vesak.

Even in the former rebel held areas in the North Army Personnale have been conducting Dansala's provide the visitors with Soft Drinks.

LTTE Shot At A Group Of Civilians Tried To Escape From The Area

LTTE shown their cruelty again by shooting a group of trapped Civilians who tried to escape from the rebel held territory last night.One Body and Twelve other injured were rushed to the Anuradhapura General Hospital.

Meanwhile another 499 Trapped Civilians were returned to the Government held area today.

No War Zone Restricted To Two Kilo Meter Area

The No War Zone of the Northern Sri Lanka has been redemarcated and the new area is now 2 Kilo Meters by 1.5 Kilo Meters Sri Lankan Military Announced.Remaining LTTE Cadres including their Leaders are restricted to this small area along with the trapped civilians.

Meanwhile LTTE Political Wing Chief B.Nadesan today denied that the LTTE is forcingly keeping Civilians with them and said these people are staying with them and wants live with them..

Sri Lankan Navy today destroyed Two LTTE Suicide Boats, Seized Another Two and captured Two Rebels in the Seas of Mulativue in Northern Sri Lanka.

Several Sea Tigers believed to be killed during the confrontation with the Navy.

LTTE Supporters Attacked Chinese Embassy In London


As Sri Lankan Ground Forces are nearing to capture the entire LTTE held area in the Northern Sri Lanka Pro LTTE Supporters again make violent move as the LTTE Supporters in United Kingdom smashed the windows of the Chinese Embassy Building in East London today.

Around 150 protesters were marched towards the Embassy this morning and hurled Rocks and Debris to the Embassy.Police arrested three people regarding this incident it has been reported.However later they were released on a bail.
Pro LTTE Supporters attacked the Chinese Embassy due to the Chinese Government's support towards Sri Lankan Government to defeating LTTE militarily.

Forces Captured Last Earth Bund Of The LTTE


Sri Lankan Ground Forces who are moving towards liberating the entire LTTE Rebel held area in the Northern Sri Lanka today captured what they believe as the last Earth Bund built by the rebels to prevent trapped civilians by escaping into Government held area.

Troops captured this bund after a battle with the rebels in the Karayanmullivaikkal in the ‘Safe Zone" of Mullaitivu District.

LTTE Leader Banned The Using Of Contreceptive Methods In Rebel Held Area To Increase Their Cadres-Health Minister


LTTE Leader Valupiilai Prabhakaren was banned using of Contraceptive Methods by the People in the Northern Sri Lanka on last few years in the view of recruiting more Child Soldiers to His Rebel Forces Sri Lankan Minister Of Health Nimal Siripala De Silva said.

Due to this Family Planning Methods are not implemented in those areas Minister stressed.

Health Ministry To Adapt Cyprus Method To Control Thalassemia In Sri Lanka


Sri Lankan Health Ministry is considering the possibility of adapting the Cyprus method of preventing the spreading of Thalassemia Disease by asking the couples who are vulnerable of getting the Disease to face a Blood Test and produce a Health Certificate about their Thalasemia Status Health Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva said today at a Media Seminar On Thalassemia.


Cyprus is succes with controlling the spreading of Thalassemia Disease in this way Minister stressed.
Currently there are around 2000 Thalassemia Patients in Sri Lanka and 5 Percent of the Local Annual Health Budget is allocated for treating them he added.Around 80 Thalassemiac Infants are born every year in Sri Lanka and around 160 Marriages of Higher Risk for these Births which are among the Blood Relatives take place here annually Sri Lankan Doctors said.

MP Piyasiri Wijenayaka And Five Others Remanded For Murder Charges


Former Janatha Wimukthi Peramuna(JVP) MP Piyasiri Wijenayaka and five others were remanded by the Attangalla Magistrate today on suspicion of murdering JVP Supporter Nandana Balage.

Sri Lanka Received 4.5 Million Sri Lankan Rupees Worth Drugs To Treat Swine Flu Patients


The Sri Lankan Office Of the World Health Organization to day handover a stock of Medicines,Syrups and N-95 Special Surgical Masks worth 4.5 Million Sri Lankan Rupees for Sri Lankan Health Ministry to use if the Deadly Swine Influenza Flu hit the Island.


The Stock including 15,000 Tami Flu Capsules,270 Bottles of Syrups and 2000 Masks according to the Health Ministry Sources.The WHO Acting Representative to Sri Lanka Dr.Frigdosi Rastum Mehtha handover this Stock to the Health Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva this evening.
Meanwhile Sri Lanka already having Stock of Drugs which can treat 1000 Swine Influenza Patients according to the Ministry.Ministry already prepared 20 wards from 20 Major Hospitals in the Country as Isolated Wards for treating Swine Flu Patients.


The Thermal Scanners installed at the Bandaranayaka International Airport in Colombo to check the Suspected Flu Cases are out of order and they were already sent to Singapore for an Imediate Repair according to the Ministry Sources.

LTTE Rebels Restricted To 4.5 Square Kilo Meter Area


Sri Lankan Ground Troops who are on the mission to rescue remaining trapped civilians in the LTTE Rebel held area now restricted remaining LTTE Cadres including their Leaders to a 4.5 Square Kilo Meter Area in the No War Zone.

LTTE Leader Valupillai Prabhakaren and other Cadres are now removed their Tiger Outfit and wearing civilian cloths to pave away to mixed up with the Civilians and if possible returned to the Government Controlled Area according to the Military Sources.
