Activist Lahiru Weerasekare Was Arrested -Another Activist And Actress Damitha Abeyratne Was Arrested And Remanded

 The Police had arrested a Social Activist and an active member of the Galle Face protest Lahiru Weerasekare today (09) over the charges of obstructing the duty of the  Police officers during a protest recently held in Maradana area (Colombo ) and being  a member of an illegal gathering .


Activist Weerasekate was arrested at the Duplication Road in Colombo this morning according to the Police .

Meanwhile Colombo North Crimes Division  had last Wednesday  (07) arrested a local actress Damitha Abeyratne who is one of the leading activist in Galle Face protest and Gota Go Home protest village   whilst returning after participating a "black hour "protest held in Diyatha Uyana at Battaramulla (Colombo ) .The actress was arrested over the charge of forcible entering the President's secretariat and damaging it's property . She was remanded until 14th of September after been produced before the Colombo Fort Magistrate .yesterday (08).

Sri Lanka Denied The UNICEF 'Statement On The Malnutrition Status Of The Country

 The Ministry Of Health had denied the statement issued by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF ) recently saying the Child Malnutrition rate is on the increase in the country ,




The Secretary to the Ministry Of  Health Janaka Sri Chandraguptha  had stressed that the UNCEF had come to a conclusion regarding the malnutritional status in the country by based on  data  collected years back .

President To Appoint 36 State Ministers Amidst Economic Crisis

 At the time Sri Lanka's economy is shrinking due to the drying of foreign reserves President Ranil Wikramasinghe has decided to appoint 36 State Ministers with effect from tomorrow (08) .These Ministers had been selected from the ruling Sri Lanka Progressive Front (Podujana Peramuna )and they are due to be sworn in  before  President today  at a function scheduled to be held in President's office ,Colombo .


Earlier President had decided to restrict the number of State Ministers to 30 ,However due to the influence of the ruling Party officials that number had been increased to 36 according to government sources .President had already appointed a 20 member Cabinet temporarily until forming of an All party government .The talks held recently  between  the President and other party members regarding the forming of an All Party government had ended without  a result .

All Schools To Be Closed Tomorrow (07)

 All the  government anf private schools in the island will get a short holiday from tomorrow(07) until next tuesday (13) to mark the end of th second term of the first session in schools according to the  Ministry of Education.




Schools will be reopened on next tuesdsy for the new term.
