Protesting University Students Arrested Over Violating Election Law -Police

Police have arrested around 50

University students after dispersing a University Student protest march at Colombo Fort this evening (24)over violating Election law according to the police .

As holding protests during the Election period is illegal these students have been arrested over violating election law Police have stressed .

The arrested students are due to be produced before the court .

Riot Police Have Fired Tear Gas And Water Cannons To Disperse A University Students Protest March

Riot police have fired tear gas and

water cannons to disperse a university students protest march organized by the Inter University Students Federation (IUSF) near the Presidential Secretariet this evening (24).

The protesters had faced the tear gas and water cannon attack when they attempted to march towards Presidential Secretariet by removing the road barricades placed by the police at Lotus Roundabout in Colombo Fort .

Police have earlier closed down the Lotus Road and placed barricades to prevent the protesters from entering Presidential Secretariet .A heavy traffic has been created in and around Colombo Fort as a result .

Student protesters have demanded to imcrease the Mahapola Scholorship allowance ,stop restricting the scholorship allowance and providing it without delay .

Around 40 Proresters have been arrested by the police over the incident ..

Three Persons Including A 03 Year Old Girl Had Been Killed Due To A Road Accident

Three persons including a 03 year old

girl had been killed and 08 persons were injured 06 of them critically and hospitalized after the Van they were travelling in veering off the road and crashed into a nearby tree at 04th post in Anuradhapura -Puttalam road this noon (24).

The injured had been admitted to Puttalam Base Hospital.for treatment .

The incident occurred as a result of the inability of the driver to control the speed of the vehicle it has been revealed .The Van driver ,A 03 year old girl and her mother were killed due to the incident .

All 11 persons in.the van were on Madu pilgrimage at the time of the incident according to Puttalam Police .

Presidential Candidate Former Army Commander Mahesh Senanayake Launched His Policy Statement

The presidential candidate of the

Nationnal Proples Party (NPP)Former Army Commander General Mahesh Senanayake had launched his policy statement for the forthcoming Presidential Election at a ceremony held in Sri Lanka Foundation Institute at Colombo -07 today (24).

The policy statement under the tbeme 'One country ,One law and One Nation "has been launched by General Senanayake this evening after receiving two hour break under the permission of Doctors whilst receiving treatment for fever at Army Hospital.in Narahenpita.

General.Senanayake was admitted to the Balangoda Base Hospital after falling sick at Balangoda recently and later he was transferred to Army Hospital it has been revealed .

Creating a Disciplined Politics and Evonomic Development of the country are among the facts including in the Policy statement General Senanayake had stated after handing over the first copy of the policy statement to Buddhist Monks attended the Ceremony .
