A Mother And Daughter Injured After Wall And Roof Of The House Collapsed On Them

A Mother and daughter had been

injured and hospitalized after the wall and the roof of their house located near the Wijayaba Collage at Veheragoda ,Meetiyagoda had collapsed on them this noon (25) due to the heavy showers prevailing in the area .

The injured had been admitted to the Balapitiya District Hospital for treatment and the mother is in critical condition it has been revealed.

Ten Districts including Galle, Matara,Colombo and Ratnapura are being affected due to Adverse Weather .

Housing Minister Sajith Premadasa To Be Nominated As The UNP's Presidential Candidate

who is the leader of governing United National Party (UNP ) Had nominated Housing Minister Sajith Premadasa as the Presidntial Candidate of the UNP for the forthcoming Presidential Elections which was approved by senior members of the party met yesterday (24)at Prime Minister's official residence Temple Trees it has been reported.

The candidacy of the Minister Premadasa for the Presidntial Election is scheduled to be approved by the UNP's Working Commiteee tomorrow (26)sources said .

Railway Employees To Launch An Island Wide Strike From.Midnight Tonight

Five catagories of Railway Employees

are scheduled to launch an Island Wide Continuous Strike from midnight tonight (25)demanding solutions for their service demands.

Accordingly Railway Engine Drivers ,Station Masters, Train Guards ,Railway Controllers and Inspection Manager s will be launched the continuous strike.

The strike is being launched by demanding solutions for several service demands of Railway Employees including salary anomaly problem.

Meanwhile Railway Trade Unions have announced that all night Postal train services schedule to running from Badulla ,Jaffna ,Batticaloa and Kankasanthurai to Colombo had been cancelled.

A Part Of A Roof Of Old Postal Building In Galle Fort Collapsed

A part of a Roof of the Old Postal Office building in Galle Fort had collapsed this evening (25)as a result of heavy showers prevailing in the area since begining of this week .

No casualties had been reported due to the incident, However a Van moved in the nearby road had narrowly escaped unharmed it has been reported.

Police have temporarily closed down the road nearby the Postal office Building due to the incident.

Residents of the area have blamed Archeology Department and Galle Heritage Fund for not taking any step to prevent the incident despite the early warnings made to them regarding the danger of Collapsing the building which was built during the Dutch era..

Main post office in Galle had maintained in the building until recently and as that office had been shifted to a new building a normal post office has been maintained in the building.
