Minister Of Petroleum Arjuna Ranathunge Had Been Arrested Over The Gun Shooting Incident In Petroleum Corporation -Trade Unions Called Off The Strike

Minister of Petroleum Resources and

Development of the  Government had been arrested by the Colombo Crimes Division this evening  (29)over the gun shooting incident at Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC)Headquarters in Dematagoda last evening (28).

However after being produced before the Colombo Magistrate Court Minister Ranathunge had been released on Rs.500,000 surety bail.

A Security Officer of the Minister who had arrived at the CPC Headquarters last evening to collect the key of his official residence had opened fire to save the Minister from a group of employees harassed him and as a result a 34 Year Old person was killed and two others had been hospitalized.

Few Trade Unions attached to Ceylon Petroleum Corporation led by Sri Lanka Freedom Party Trade Union had launched a strike since last evening demanding the arrest of the Minister Ranathunge.

Due to this situation distribution of fuel had been completely stopped since last evening and a large ques had been seen in front CPC fuel stations.

Motorists had been on ques simce last evening due to fear of a possible fuel shortage as a result of the strike .

However soon after arresting Petroleum Minister Ranathunge Trade Unions called off the strike and returned to work this evening it has been reported.

Meanwhile Sri Lanka Freedom Party Trade unions attached to CPC have said they will take legal action against the Minister. 

Opposition Leader R.Sampanthan Had Requested The Speaker To Convene The Parliament

The Opposition Leader R.Sampanthan

of Tamil National Alliance (TNA) has today (28)requested the Speaker Karu Jayasuriya To convene the Parliament as soon as possible to maintain the supremacy of Parliament and to carry out the fumctions of legally elected Parliament.

The Opposition Leader has made this request through a letter sent to the Speaker Jayasuriya this evening .

President Sirisena has prorogued the parliament until 16 th of November when Prime Minister Ranil Wikramsinha  .

Attorney General Has Handed Over His Opinion On Whether The Removal Of Prime Mimister Is Constitutionally Legal ,To Speaker

Attorney General Jayantha Jayasuriya

has today (28) handed over his opinion on the removal of Prime Minister Ranil Wikramasinghe from his post by President Maithripala Sirisena ,to the Speaker Karu Jayasuriya it has been reported.

Speaker Jayasuriya had requested the Attorney General to give his verdict on whether the removal of Premier Wikramasinghe from his post last friday(26) was Constitutionally legal .

Speaker is due to reveal his stand on the issue shortly.

Maithripala Sirisena to remove Prime Mimister Ranil Wikramasinghe  from his post was an act that clearly violated the Constitution purposely according to the United National Party  (UNP)MP Attorney At Law Dr.Jayampathy  Wikramaratna.

Addressing a media conference held in Colombo today (29)titled "Cancel the prorogueing Parliament by honouring the Constitution " MP Wikramaratna has said that as the removal of Premier Wikramasinghe is unconstitutional, all the appointments made afterwards by the President too were illegal appointments .
