"One Hundred Seven Cities In Sri Lanka Now Completely Stopped Selling Cigarettes "-PHI Union

The Public Health Inspectors(PHI) Union had informed the Health Minister Dr.Rajitha Senaratne that the number of Cities in the country that  completely stopped selling Cigarettes to the public is 107.

This includes 22 cities in Jaffna District, 16 Cities in Matara District and 17 Cities  in Kurunagala District.


Due to the various steps taken against Cigarettes including the increasing of the tax percentage imposed on Cigarettes to 90 percent, Covering 80 percent area of the Surface in Cigarette Pack with warning massages ,Introduction of No Smoking Zones and limited the area near schools that selling Cigarettes the number of Cities stopped selling Cigarettes is on the increase the PHI Union has stated.

Meanwhile Health Minister is expecting the number of Cities that stopped selling Cigarettes to be exceeded  200 by the year 2019.

Five Youth Were Arrested With Kerala Cannabis In Possession

Five youths had arrested by the
 Officials attached to the Excise Office in Hatton with 13 Grammes Of Kerala Cannabis in their possession at Kotagala and Thalawakale areas on last Monday (20).

The youth who are residents of Lindula and Thalawakale areas are due to be produced before the Nuwara Eliya Magistrate Court.

Cabinet Had Rejected A Proposal On Making A Minimum Age Limit Of Driving A Three Wheeler To 35 Years

Cabinet has yesterday (21)rejected a
proposal submitted by the Minister Of Transport Nimal Siripala De Silva to the Cabinet on making the minimum age limit of driving A Three Wheeler to 35 years .

Cabinet had rejected the proposal after several Minister's including Minister of Finance Mangala Samaraweera and Prrsident Maithripala Sirisena had spoken against the proposal during the Cabinet Meeting held at Presidential Secretariat .

Due to opposition of other Ministers Transport Minister has later withdrawn the proposal.

Meanwhile Minister Of Finance Mangala Samaraweera has announced that the Government will regulate the Three Wheelers in the country.

Three Persons Arrested With 14 Tonnes Of Illegal Beedi Wrappings

Sri Lanka Customs had arrested three
Persons who had illegally smuggled 14 tonnes of "Beedi" wrappings to the country on the pretext of importing goods yesterday (21).

Customs officers had taken in to custody the "Beedi" Wrappings during a search operation carried out on a container at Thotalanga container yard.

The estimated value of the Beedi Wrappings taken in to custody is around Rs.1.3 million.

A Group Of An Unidentified Persons Had Robbed A Bank At Gandara

A group of an unidentified persons
arrived in at a private bank in Parawahara ,Gandara this evening (21)by two motorcycles  had robbed around Rs.300,000 from the bank and fled away according to the Police .

The suspects who had arrived in the Bank while covering their faces with full face helmets and equipped with a gun shot and injured a female who was at the Bank during the robbery.The injured female had been admitted to the Matara General Hospital for treatment .

Gandara Police are investigating on the incident.
