Cut Throat Sign Incident In London :Recalled Brigadier Priyanka Fernando Was Asked To Appear Again Before Foreign Ministry Secretary On Monday As The Secretary Was Busy Yesterday

The Defense Advisor to the Sri Lankan Ambassador in
United Kingdom Brigadier Priyanka Fernando who was recalled to the island due to the cut throat sign he had shown during the protest campaign of Tamil Diasphora community in london,had appeared before the Foreign Affairs Ministry last morning (23) as requested ,But he was asked to appear before the Ministry seceretary again by next Monday (26)as the Ministry secretary was busy yesterday it has been reported.

However Brigadier Fernando had arrived in Army Headquarters yesterday and met with Major General P.W.B Jayasundara to discuss over the London incident.Army commander Mahesh Senanayake  has earlier stated that no inquiry will be held or disciplinory action  taken against the Brigadier over the incident.

Water Supplying To Several Areas In And Around Kalutara From Kalu River Not Suitable For Drinking Purposes-Water Board

The water supplying from  Kalu(Black ) River is not
suitable for drinking purposes as the salty sea water flowing in to the river due to the current dry weather condition according to the National Water Supply and Drainage Board .

Accordingly water supplying from Kalu River by the Water Board for the areas wadduwa,Kalutara North,Kalutara South, Nagoda, Waskaduwa, ,Bombuwala,Pilimnawatte,Maggona,Payagala,Aluthgama,Beruwala,Darga Town and Benthara not suitable for drinking purposes but can use for other purposes Water Board has announced.

Steps have been taken to establish water tanks in common places of those areas and to distribute drinking water to the public  through water bowsers the Board has stressed.


A Pillion Rider Was Killed And A Motorcycle Rider Was Critically Injured Due To A Road Accident

A 32 year old pilion rider was killed and the
Motorcycle rider has been critically injured and hospitalized after the Motorcycle they were riding in veering off the road and colliding with a tree at Matibokka,Mawathagama area on Kandy-Kurunagala main road.

The critically injured Motorcycle rider was admitted to the Kandy Teaching Hospital and the pillion rider was admitted to Galagedara Hospital for treatment and the Pillion rider had succumbed to his injuries after hospital admission.

The deceased was identified as a resident of Weuda area.

Special Commodity Levy On Imported Potatoes Has Been Increased

The special commodity levy imposed on a Kilo
Gramme of imported Potatoes has been increased by Rs.29 from Rs.1 to Rs.30 with effect from midnight tonight (23) the government has announced.

The special commodity levy on imported potatoes has been increased to give concession to the local potatoe farmers as their potatoe harvest currently  reaching  the market.

The levy increase will be implemented until 31st of March .
