Navy Have Arrested Three Persons With 55 Kilo Grammes Of Kerala Cannabis

Sri Lanka Navy have  today (01)arrested three persons along with 55 kilo grammes of Kerala Cannabis while transporting the Cannabis through a boat in the sea coast off Sambal in Kareinagar Koviran,Jaffna.

The raid was carried out as per a tip received by the Navy it has bern reported.

A Special Research Institute To Be Set Up At Peradeniya University Premises On Unknown Chronic Kidney Disease

A special Research Institute is due to be set up at  the Peradeniya University premises with Chinese Assistance to carry out research on finding the causes for unknown Chronic Kidney Disease which spread in 12 Districts in the island according to Minister of Health,Nutrition And Indigenous Medicine Dr.Rajitha Senaratne.

Accordingly the proposed Research Institute will be built at a seven and half acre land belonging to the Peradeniya University at a cost of One Billion US Dollars the Minister has stressed.

A mutual agrement was signed between the Chinese Science Research Institute and Ministry Of Health in Sri Lanka in China last week regarding the setting up of the proposed Research Institute affliated to the Chinese Science Research Institute at Peradeniya University premises .

Attorney General Submitted A Petition To Appeals Court By Challanging A Verdict Given By Jury Of Anuradhapura High Court

The Attorney General has today (01)submitted a petition to the Appeals Court challanging the decision made by the jury members  of Anuradhapura High Court who exolerated six Atmy Corprols who were charged with killing  24 civilians in Trincomalee Area in 1996.

Attorney General had earlier indicted against the six Army Corprols at Anuradhapura High Court against the killing of 24 civilians in   Kumarapuram,Trincomalee.

However after hearing the case for 20 years the Jury of the Anuradhapura High  ourt has delivered their verdict in last July by exolerating the six Army Corprols of all charges.

Sri Lanka To Launch Around Five To Eight Themed Tourism Development Zones To Attract More Tourists To The Country

Sri Lanka to launch around five to eight themed international tourism development and family entertainment zones to attract more foreign tourists to the Country the Minister  of  Tourism John Amarathunge has today (01) stated.

These themed tourism zones are being designated in state owned lands selected for their outstanding  natural beauty.They include forest regions,mountains,beaches extending more than 1500 acres Minister has stressed.

This themed tourism zones project is a public-private sector initiative backed by the Ministry of Tourism,Ministry of Lands and a government recognized group of industrial leaders- Sri Lanka Tourism Club.

These zones will be established under a five year plan and the first zone "Lanka Patuna" is already under initial construction which covers over a 450 acres of beautuful beach land and it will have a capacity for 25-30 luxary hotels government has announced.

The full plans on these themed tourism zones will be unveiled at the inaugural Asia Hotel and Tourism Investment Conference due to be held in Colombo this November .

Sudden power Failure Occurred In Several Areas In Central,Sabaragamuwa And Southern Provinces

A sudden power failure had occurred in several areas in Southern,Central and Sabaragamuwa Provinces  few hours ago due to  a failure in transmitting systems of the Lakshapana Hydro Power Station and second plant of the Norochchalai Coal Power Plant following a lightning .


The Ceylon Electricity Board has short while ago restored the power supply in the afected areas the Board has stated.
