Former Minister Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena Was Summoned By The Presidential Commission Of Inquiry Over An Allegation

The former minister Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena has today(14) given a statement to Presidential Commission Of Inquiry To Investigate and Inquire Into Serious Acts Of Fraud ,Corruption and Abuse of Power  (PRECIFAC) regarding allegations leveled against him over misusing vehicles belonging to the Hector Kobbakaduwa Agrarian Research And Training Institute.

This was the first time that former minister Abeywardena was summoned to the commission to record a statement.

Over One Million School Children In Sri Lanka Still Not Using Tooth Brushes To Clean Their Teeth

Over one million school children in Sri Lanka are reported as still  not using tooth brushes to clean their teeth according to the Deputy Director General Of Health Services (Dental Services) attached to Ministry Of Health , Dr.Jayasundara Bandara.

Due to this situation there is a risk of spreading Oral Diseases among School Children   he has said.

As the World Health Organization(WHO) sets a target that when reached the age of 80 every one should have at least 20 teeth in their mouth ,it is essential to keep the teeth of school children healthy during their school days to achieve that target  Dr.Bandara Has said.

By brushing teeth twice a day in correct way can keep a healthy teeth and Health Ministry's aim is to protect every tooth of school children until they leave the school he has further said.

Dr.Jayasundara Bandara has revealed these facts during the seminar on "Oral Health" held at Health Education Bureau in Colombo this morning.

CID Has Launched A Separate Investigation On Yesterday's Island Wide Power Failure

The Criminal Investigations Department(CID)has launched a separate Investigation on  island wide power failure occurred yesterday(13) according to the Chairman of Ceylon Electricity Board Anura Wijeypala.

Sri Lanka has suffered it's worst ever  nation wide Power Cut yesterday(13) after May 1996 when the entire country was without electricity for four days.Yesterday's Power Cut lasted for a few hours .

Ceylon Electricity Board Has Requested The Public To Reduce Power Consumption

The Ceylon Electricity Board has today(14) requested the public to reduce the power consumption during peak hours within next four days to avaoid power shortages.

Earlier the Board has stated that minor power interruptions may have occurred during next few days due to the damage occured to major transformer at Biyagama Receiving Station..
