Government Launched Kerosene Subsidy Programme

The Government has today (19th) begun providing  of Kerosene Subsidy to low income families throughout the Island who are undergoing severe hardships due to recent increase of Fuel including Kerosene.Around 500,000 low income families who are without electricity facility will benefited from this Kerosene Subsidy which granted a subsidy of Rs.200 per month per family through Divisional Secretariats Island wide.

Rural Families and Estate Worker Families are amongst the families who are benefited under this subsidy according to Government Sources.The Government is planned to spend Rs.80 million monthly to provide Kerosene Subsidy the sources have revealed.

The Government has increased Fuel Prices with effect from Midnight Last Saturday(11th) with a liter of Kerosene was increased by Rs.35.

Sri Lankans Beat Australians By 8 Wicktes

The Sri Lankan Cricketers today (17) registered their first win under the  Commonwealth Bank ODI Tri Series Cricket Championships played in Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) in Australia by beating host Australians from  8 wickets .In the day and night match played in Sydney the Sri Lankan Team was able to restricted strong Aussies Batting lineup to 158 runs in 41 overs as rain reduced the number of over per side..

As a reply to the Australian total the Sri Lankans scored 152 runs for the loss of only 2 wickets in 24.2 overs when the win was handed over to them under Duck worth Lewis system with a bonus point.Skipper Mahela Jayawardena has top scored with unbeaten 61 not out .Sri Lankan Pace man Tissara Perera who put an all round effort during the play was adjudged as Man of The Match.

Meanwhile during today's play  former skipper Kumar Sangakkara has  became the third Sri Lankan Player to reach 10,000 run mark in One Day Internationals.
