Mother And Daughter Arrested For Transporting Marijuana


Due to the Economic Difficulties A Mother and her Daughter who are the main characters in this story get used to sell Marijuana for living.They are transporting the Marijuana by sticking it to their bodies and due to the fully covered cloths they are wearing no one can suspect that they are carrying something suspicious.How ever yesterday both of them were caught by the Kandy Police when they were traveling from a bus sticking large quantity of Marijuana to their bodies.

The Police is due to produce the accused Mother and Daughter to Courts soon.Both of them sticked Marijuana in to their bodies including Stomach and the Legs .The Daughter is identified as Pregnant according to the Police.

More LTTE Belongings Recovered From The North


After heavy Fighting with the LTTE Rebels Sri Lankan Ground Troops yesterday recovered another LTTE Bunker and around 400 Vehicals left by the rebels in Puthukkuduyirippu Area in the North.Meanwhile Ten rebel Boats were also destroyed by the troops in the Mulativue District.

Security Sources said that there is heavy Fighting goes between the government forces and the LTTE in the area at present which is the final stronghold of the rebels.LTTE'S Sea Tiger Leader Sossei too is reported to be in the battle Field.Meanwhile the Grave of the Five Year old son of Sossei who was killed from an explosion in 2007 was recovered by the Troops at Western Puthukkuduyirippu area.

Removed HIB Vaccine Is To Be Back In March


HIB Pentavalant Vaccine which was withdrawn from the National Immunaization Campaign of Sri Lanka on Last May due to the Deaths of four Infants will Re Introduced to the Campaign from Mid of March this year as the Experts cleared charges against the Vaccine Epidemiologiy Unit Announced to day.

HIB which is prescribed to give Infants at the ages of Two, Four and Six Months is a Pentavalant ,compromised with Vaccines preventing Five Disseases(Tetunus,Diptheria,Whooping Cough,HIB and Hepatitis-B).Around 150,000 Vials of HIB Injections were removed from the Immunaization Campaign Clinics throughout the Island last year after Four Infants who received these Vaccines were died.Epidemiology Unit and the World Health Organization(WHO) Conducted an investigations on this and stated that there is no connection what so ever between these deaths and the Vaccine.

Remanded Sr Lankan Business Tycoon Transfered To The Hospital


Sri Lankan Business Tycoon Mr Lalith Kotalawala who was remanded yesterday on alleged Financial Freud is Transfered to the Prison Hospital in Welikala To Day and from there to the Merchants Ward of the Colombo National Hospital on Poor Health Grounds.

A Record Price Reduction For Sri Lankan Gas


Sri Lankan Consumers received some kind of relief to day as the Government decided to Reduce the Prices of Gas Cylinders between Rs.310-334 with the effect from Mid Night to day.This is the highest Price Reduction of a Consumer Product reported here from some time.

According to the new price reduction The Price of a 12.5 Kilo Grammes Shell Gas Cylinder is reduced by Rs.310 and the new price will be Rs.1350 .Laugfs Gas Cylinder is reduced by Rs.334 and the new price is Rs.1069.The Price reduction of the Laugfs Gas will come to effect from Mid Night Tomorrow.

Missing Sri Lankan Editor Is In Police Custody



A Confusion arises when the Editor In Chief of the Sri Lankan Tamil Paper reported as Missing this morning.Earlier it was reported that the missing Editor of the " Suder Oli 'N.Vidyadaran was abducted by an unidentified gang who came from a White Van and Police too confirmed it. But few hours later Police Issued a statement and state that he was arrested by the Police for questioning in Connection with the Last weak's LTTE Air Attack in Colombo.

Police Officers arrested him at Mount Lavinea Area in the Colombo Suburbs around 10 this morning while attending a funeral of the relative of the Chairman of his Company .

Meanwhile The Reporters Without Borders to day Condemned the arrest of SudarOli Editor and urged Government to Guarantee his safety.Media Minister Lakshman Yapa Abewardana already assured the Reporters Without Borders through the Telephone that Mr.Vidyadaran is safe and he is held by the Colombo Crimes Division for Questioning .Crimes Division is questioning him regarding the two reports published in the 'SuderOli" Paper on 6th and 11th of February.

Kelaniya University Closed Down Due To Student Clashes


A clashes between two rival Student Groups led to the closure of the Kelaniya University to day.Vice Chancellor of the University decided to closed down the university until further notice.
Police were called to the University Premises and they used Tear Gas to disperse the Student Protesters.One student injured during the clashes admitted to the Hospital.

This is the second time in last few weeks that the Student Clashes erupted between the rival Student Groups of the University.Last time Police arrested some student protesters including Lecturers and Female Students who were not involved in the clashes.

Colombo Public Health Department To Sue Governing Body On Spreading Dengue


The Public Health Department of the Colombo Urban Council issued a notice to Government owned Land Reclamation Department stating to clean all polluted Canals come under them in the city which became Dengue Mosquito Breeding Places or faced Legal Action."If the Department is not taking any Measure to clean the Canals in one weak's time we will Sued them "The Chief Medical Officer of the Colombo Dr.Pradeep Kariyawasam said .

Three Children in the Modara-Mattakuliya Area of the Colombo Suburbs died due to Dengue During January and February this year as Health Authorities charging the polluted Canals as responsible for this.Ninty Percent of Reserviours in the Colombo City are Governed by the Land Reclamation Deapartment.These Canals are polluted heavily and became Dengue Mosquito Breading Places Dr.Kariyawasam Stressed.


Dengue a Dissease which is an Endamic in the Sri Lanka now spreading fast in the areas of Colombo Suburbs due the polluted Canals he urged.Last January 105 Dengue Patients reported from the City with majority of them are Children and Three Children died from the Disease.In February 55 Dengue Cases reported up to now and one child was died due to the Dissease.Majority of these Dengue Patients were reported from the Modara- Mattakuliya Area.


Dengue Mosquito Eadis Egipty caused the Dengue Dissease and Increasing number of Mosquito Breading Places in the Urban and Rural Areas seen as the main cause for spreading the Dissease.

Ministry Of Health Hospitalized 242 IDP'S In Last 48 Hours


Director General of Health Services Dr Ajith Mendis said to day that yesterday and to day they admitted 242 wounded and sick Internal Displaced persons(IDP'S) to the Hospitals of Vavuniya and Mannar for further treatment.Adding that these Civilians are wounded while they fled to the Government held areas from LTTE held areas Dr.Mendis stressed Some having gun fire wounds,cuts and broken arms and legs .Another 400 IDP'S are due to hospitalized tomorrow for further treatment he added.
Meanwhile more then 50 Doctors of various parts of the Island are currently involved in treating of IDP'S in the North he further said.

Mahela And Thilan Broken The Fifty Two Year Old Record Of The Fourth Wicket Partnership



Sri Lankan Cricket Captain Mahela Jayawardene and Thilan Samaraweera to day broken the fifty two year old fourth wicket partnership of 411 runs at a Test Match set by Peter May and Sir Colon Cowdrey of England in 1957.Mahela and Thilan put 437 runs for the fourth wicket at the second day of their First Test Match with Pakistan at Karachchi National Stadium and spared 643 balls and 450 minutes to reached it.

Previous fourth wicket partnership record between May and Sir Cowdery in 1957 was set against the West Indies at Edgbeston.


Captain Mahela contributed 240 runs for the partnership and it was his fifth double century and first one at a foreign soil.Thilan contributed 231 runs.Earlier the pair broken the highest fourth wicket partnership of 298 runs recorded in Karachchi National Stadium which they are playing now by any team.

With the help of this duo Sri Lanka reached 644 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in their first innings and declared the innings shortly after the Tea Break.At the close of play Pakistan were 44 runs for the loss of 1 wicket.

LTTE Air Attack To Colombo A Suicide Mission-Sri Lankan Air Commander


Sri Lankan Air Commander Air Marshal Rohan Goonathilake refers the air attack carried out by the LTTE last friday was a suicide mission and a attempt similar to the 2001 September 11 World Trade Center attack in New York. LTTE pilots brought around 250 Kilo Grammes of Explosives for the Mission he urged.The Explosives including the Bombs sticked to the bodies of the LTTE Pilots luckily not exploded and it prevents a huge Disaster according to the Air Commander.It is revealed that one of the two Air Crafts came for the attack carried 130 Killos of Explosives.
The Magisterial Inquiry on the Crashed LTTE Air Craft in to the Katunayaka Area held yesterday and the samples were taken from the body of the deceased Pilot of the craft for DNA Test to identify whether he is a Sri Lankan or not.

GMOA Prevented a Docs Strike In Vavuniya Hospital

Government Medical Officers Association(GMOA) of sri lanka to day prevented a possible strike action of the doctors attached to the vavuniya general hospital in the northern sri lanka citing the present conflict situation prevailing there.all fifty doctors in the hospital earlier planned to stage a walkout opposing the administration of the hospital director but reduced that action to a one hour protest campaign after GMOA intervened to the scene.According to the assistant secretery of the GMOA dr.upul gunasekera his union held discussions with the docs there this morning and urged them to prevent any inconveniences to the people in the area.At present large number of civilian and forces casualties are dispatch to the vavuniya hospital.

Eighteen Thousand Pethidine Vials Are Air Lifted To Ease Severe Shortage Of The Injection


Ministry of Health to day air lifted 18,000 vials of essential pain killer injection "pethidine" from India which is currently not available in government hospitals .Although  this stock is much lesser then the annual requirement it will help to ease the shortage for few months ministry officials said. shortage of pethidine vials have occurred after the medical supplies division removed large number of expired pethidine vials from the government hospitals on end of January.due to the shortage of this injection wounded patients and pregnant mothers are facing difficulties hospital sources said.there was much controversy on the shortage of this injection among doctors and even health minister to day announced in parliament that pethidine shortage will be ended after these air lifted vials are distributed to the hospitals
.
Hospital doctors charged that some kind of irregularity had happened when purchasing this injection as the ministry has  imported large number of pethidine vials exceeds the required amount.

Around One Thousand One Hundrad Fifty IDP'S Admitted To Hospitals Due To Infections


Around 1150 In displaced People(IDP'S) who were returned from rebel held areas hospitalized due to the infections they are having Ministry of Health says to day.these people were admitted to five hospitals including trincomalee and vavuniya general hospitals.around 15 small children were treated for their infections at the colombo lady ridgway hospital and they are now recovered fully according to the hospital doctors.
For providing maximum security and treatment facilities to these in displaced persons the resident patients of trincomalee and vavuniya hospitals are to transfered to near by hospitals.Health ministry to day decided to send around 1500 nursing students who are to received the appointments as nurses shortly to the centers where IDP'S are staying.

Health Ministry Recommended A Retired Hospital AO An Extension?


Ministry of Health is recommended the public services commission an extension for a sixty year old chief administrative officer of the south colombo teaching hospital who should be retired from the service last year.according to the policy of the government those who are sixty years old should be retired from the government service.
Due to this irresponsible act of the ministry junior administrative officers are not able to get a chance for applying the post health workers pointed out.health ministry recommended this extension of the recommendation of previous director of the teaching hospital it has been revealed.

There is an illegal dealing while purchasing the pethidine injections as three hundred sixty thousand vials of above injection were removed from the government hospitals after expiring them assistant secretary of the government medical officers association(GMOA) dr.upul gunasekara charged today.addressing a packed press briefing in colombo to day he said that the worth of these removed injection vials are around rs. 1.8 million.due to the removal of these vials there is shortage of this injection at the government hospitals these days.

Neuro Surgical Patients Facing Difficulties Due To Broke Down Of Several Machines In National Hospital


The Neuro Surgical Patients and the staff of the Sri Lanka's Major Government Hospital the colombo national hospital are facing enormous difficulties due to the broke down of several several million rupees worth neuro surgical machines in the hospital including the MIR scanning machine,the Angio gram and all the cratiotome machines use for cutting the surgical point.
Due to this the MRI and Angio gramme Tests of the neuro surgical patients of the national hospital are done through the private sector.
Around 4500 surgeries are performed in Colombo national hospital annually and it is higher then in some of the hi/technical hospitals in United kingdom.
Therefor not taking any measures to repair these machines from long time is unacceptable according to the Hospital Sources.the MRI Scan machine is broken due to the problem of it's tube and four Cratiotome machines were broken a month back and Neuro surgeons are now cutting the point of the surgery from hand used equipment which is harder to do doctors said.
C.T Scan Machine in the neuro surgical unit is also prone to break regularly due to the overload of the scan tests performed through that machine they stressed.when contacted Hospital Director Dr.hector weerasinha said that the repairing of MRI Scan Machine is due to finish tomorrow but he is not informed on breaking down of other machines in neuro surgical unit

Sixty Percent Voter Turn Out Reported In North Western And Central Provincial Polls


A Sixty Percent Voter Turn Out was Reported at the Time of Completion Of the North Western And Central Provincial Council Elections of Sri Lanka Held To Day Despite the Reports Of Several Election Malpractices in Some Districts.Around 26 People were Arrested Due to Voter Intimidation and According to the Election Monitors Pafferrel they Received 40 Complaints on Election Malpractices.However only 15 of these Complaints are Confirmed.

There is a Severe Shortage of the Essential Pain Killer Injection Vial "Pethidine" (IV/IM ,75 mg/50 mg)at Government Hospitals Throughout The Island these days as Medical Supplies Division had Removed around Five Hundred Thousand Of Expired Vials of those injections From the Hospitals.These Vials were Expired on 31st of January and It is Believe that they were Purchased when the Expiring Date is nearing The President of the All Ceylon Medical Officers Association Dr.Gishantha Dassanayaka has Urged.He Further said that there will be a Financial Freud Behind the  Purchasing of  these Injection Vials as the Ministry Bought them More than the Required Amount.This is Another Reason for the Expiring of these Vials He Added.
