Deputy Leader Of United National Party Presidential Candidate Sajith Premadasa Has Resigned From All His Posts In The Party

Deputy leader of the governing United
National Party (UNP ) And presidential candidate of the National Democratic Front ,Sajith Premadasa had resigned from the deputy leader post of his party  by accepting the defeat of the Election before annoucing the final result .

MP. Premadasa has thanked all those who had voted for him in the presidential  election and those who have supported his election campaign .He has also stated that he will notify in future how he plans to engage in future political activities .

Presidential Election -Counting Of Ballot Papers Still Underway -District Results Of Jaffna And Wanni Had Been Announced

Counting the Ballot papers of
Presidential election is still underway and only total results of two districts had been announced up to now along with results of many polling divisions of Galle,Matara ,Hambanthota and ,Ratnapura Districts .

Results of some polling divisions belonging to Nuwara Eliya ,Trincomalee,Polonnaruwa,Anuradhapura and Batticaloa Districts had been also announced .

District rsults of Jaffna and Vanni Districts in Northern province had been annoumced and National Democratic Front (NDF) Candidate Sajith premadasa won these districts over his rival Sri Lanka Podu Jana Peramuna Candidate Gotabaya Rajapakshe with majority of Votes.

Meanwhile Gotabaya Rajapakshe had won many polling divisions in Galle ,Matara ,Hambanthota and Ratnapura Disteicts announced so far 

A Van Carried Ballot Boxes Toppled Over In Haputhale

A van carried Ballot Boxes of
Dambethanna Tamil School in Haputhale had toppled over whilst taking the boxes to the Counting center in Badulla last evening (16) the Chairman of the National Election Commission Mahinda Deshapriya has stated .

As a result the driver of the vehicle had been injured and hospitalized and the Ballot Boxes of the Van had been transported to the counting center by a Police Mobile Petrol Vehicle safely .

Meanwhile Presidential Election results of the Kegalle ,Ratnapura and Badulla Districts are being delayed  due to heavy showers and floods prevailed in these Districts yesterday. ,Ballot Boxes had been reached the counting centers so late as a result according to the National Election Commission Chairman .

NDF Candidate Sajith Premadada Leads The Presidential Race According To The Results So Far

According to the Election results
announced so far in the Presidential Election conducted yesterday (16) Presidential Candidate of the New Democratic Front (NDF) Sajith Premadasa is leading the race by obtaining around 50.52  percent of the total votes-715,430 votes  (At 7.50  a.m this morning ).

Presidential candidate of the Sri Lanka Podu Jana Peramuna Gotabaya Rajapakshe has obtained 41 .97 percent of the total votes (594,000 votes).

Thirty five candidates contested in the Presidential election held yesterday to elect the seventh Executive President of Sri Lanka .

Voting Of The Presidential Election Has Been Concluded -80 Percent Casted Votes -Election Is Peacefull

Around 80 perecent of eligible voters
had casted their votes during the Presidential Election held today (16)according to the chairman of National Election Commission Mahinda Deshapriya.

The voting of the presidential election which began at 7 a.m this morning  has been concluded at 5 p.m in the evening .Voting has been conducted in a peaceful manner Chairman of the Election Commission has stressed .

Colombo District also had 80 percent voter turnout during today's election  according to reports .

Meanwhile Ballot boxes had been trandported to 50 counting centers this evening and counting of Postal.votes is currently underway .

The first election result is scheduled to be announced around midnight tonight according to the National Election Commission Chairman .
