"Sena" Caterpillar Has Been Found In A Corn Cultivation In Hatton

The "Sena " Caterpillar which had destroyed Corn Cultivation in All Districts throughout the Island except Nuwara -Eliya and Jaffna had been recovered in a corn cultivation located at a Vegetable land in Ruwanpura,Hatton (Nuwara-Eliya District )according to Farmers .

The "Sena" Caterpillar had already destroyed thousands of Acres cultivated with  Corn and Sugarcane  in many Districts since last few months and it affects livelihood of a large number of farming community in the country it has been revealed.

Department Of Agriculture has already identified two varieties of "Sena" Caterpillar that destroyed it has been revealed.

The Department has already sent a sample of  "Sena" Caterpillar to a University in USA  to identify a correct method which can destroy the caterpillar according to the Agriculture Department .After receiving the study report authorities are due to use a correct method to destroy the Caterpillar .

Two Small Children Were Injured Due To A Van -Tusker Collision

Two small Children had received minor injuries and hospitalized after a Van they were

travelling in colliding with a Tusker crossing the road at Moragoda area ,Shravasthipura on Anuradhapura-Kurunagala Main Road  this morning (19).

The injured Children had been admitted to Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital for treatment .The Van they were travelling in had been severely damaged due to the collision with Tusker it has been revealed.The Children along with two females and a Male driver were inside the Van at the time of the incident  and others were escaped unhurt .

The Tusker had fled away from the scene after the incident.A placard is there at the place where incident occurred showing Elephant Crossing is there according to Police.

A Mother And Daughter Had Been Killed Due To A Motor Cycle-Train Collision

A Mother and her Daughter had been killed and the Motorcyclist who is a relative of their

family had been critically injured and hospitalized after the Motorcycle they were travelling in colliding with a  Train travelling from Puttalam to Colombo Fort at an unprotective  Railway Crossing in Kristhuraja Road at Ja-Ela,Thudalla area this evening (19).


The Mother and Daughter who were  36 and 08 year old residents of Dandugama,Ja-Ela area had been killed on the spot due to the accident and the Male Motorcyclist had been admitted to Ragama Teaching Hospital in critical condition it has been reported.

The Incident occurred when the Motorcycle had attempted to cross the railway crossing .

Ja-Ela Police are conducting an investigation over the incident.
