Parliament Adjourned Until Next Wednesday (12)

After today's (05)proceedings,
Parliament Adjourned until 1.30 p.m on 12 th of December by the Speaker Karu Jayasuriya .

Parliament meet today at 10.30 a.m under the patronage of Speaker and the Parliamentarians attached to United National Party  (UNP),Janatha Wimukthi Peramuna  (JVP) have expressed their views on the current political conflict.

UNP MP Mayantha Dissanayake has informed the pallotment that although loosing two no confidence motions in Parliament, MP Mahinda Rajapakshe s name still appeared in Parliament website as Prime Minister of the country .Speaker has replied that he will look into that matter .

United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) MP"s had boycotted today's parliamentary proceedings as well as the Party leaders meeting held prior to the Parliament proceedings. 

Attorney General Has Informed The Supreme Court President Has Dissolved The Parliament According To Power Vested With Him Under The Constitution

President Maithripala Sirisena had
dissolved the Parliament under the Executive power vested in him according to the articles 33.2 and 70 of the Constitution Attorney General Jayantha Jayasuriya Had today (05)informed the  seven member Judge Panel of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Nalin Perera which hear the petitions filed against the dissolvement of Parliament.

Attorney General has stressed that the Petitioners have Challanged
 the Constitutional power vested  in  President and requested the court to reject the Petitions.

However the Petitioners had  argued under the 19th Amendment added to the Constitution President has no power to dissolve the Parliament until it completes four and half years .

The hearing of petitions filed against the dissolvement of Parliament had concluded for the second day today .Tomorrow  (06)the seven member Judge Panel will continue the hearing of petitions and due to deliver the verdict on this Friday  (07).

Tea Production Is Being Crippled In Some Areas Due To The Continuous Strike Of Some Estate Workers

Tea Production in some Estates in Upcountry including Tea factories located in Thalawakale, Hatton and Maskeliya areas had been halted due to the continuous strike launched by Estate Workers belonging to Ceylon Workers Congress demanding to increase their daily wage to Rs.1000 it has been reported.

However as other Estate Trade Unions including National Estate Workers Union attached to United National Party (UNP) not join the strike yet , Estate workers in other areas had  reported to work .

The strike has been launched yesterday (04).

Chief Of Defense Staff Ravindra Wijegunaratna Has Been Released On Bail

Colombo Fort Magistrate Ranga  Dissanayake has today(05)
released the Chief of Defense Staff Rear Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratna who had been arrested and remanded over helping and encouraging Former Navy Commander Chandana Prasad Hettiarachchi allias "Navy Sampath" who is in remand over abduction and dissapearence of 11 youth in 2008 ,on bail.

The Chief of Defense Staff Wijegunaratna had been released on two surety bails of Rs.one million each  by the court .

The Colombo Fort Magistrate has strictly warned the Chief of Defense Staff not to influence witnesses of case against him and to investigations.  If the court has received any complaints on him threatening or influence witnesses the Bail conditions will be cancelled and he will be reminded again.
