Three Persons Have Been Arrested With 249 Cigarette Cartons At Katunayake Airport

Three Persons Had been arrested by
Airport Customs officers this morning  (26) with 249 Cigarette Cartons containing foreign made Cigarette sticks at Katunayake, Bandaranaike International Airport .

The suspects of the ages 17 -31 years and residents of Maligawatte and Galle areas had arrived at Katunayake Airport From "Sarjah"United Arab Emirates .

The stock of Cigarette Cartons worth more than Rs. 2.4 million has hidden in the  luggage of suspects  it has been revealed. 

Court Of Appeal.Has Decided To Taken Up For Hearing A Petition Against The Appointment Of Premier Mahinda Rajapakshe And His Cabinet

Two member Judge Panel in Court of
Appeal comprising of it's chairman Preethi Padman Surasena  and Arjuna Obeysekare had decided today  (26)to take up a petition submitted by 122 MP's of Parliament requesting to issue a 'Quo Warranto " writ order to make the appointment of Premier Mahinda Rajapakshe and his Cabinet of Ministers "null and void",for hearing on 30th of November and 03 Rd of December .

The Petitioners have named 49 persons including the newly appointed Cabinet lead by Appointed Premier Mahinda Rajapakshe as respondents  .

The Petition has stated that Premier Mahinda Rajapakshe does not have the support of Majority in Parliament and even the speaker has confirmed it .Therefore it requests  the court to decide Premier Mahinda Rajaoakshe has no legal right to hold premiership according to the Constitution  and issue a court order to make his appointment "null and void".

Notices are due to be issued to the respondents shortly it has Been revealed.

122 MP's belonging to political parties represent in Parliament including United National Party ,Tamil National Alliance, Sri Lanka Muslim Congress and Janatha Wimukthi Peramuna have signed the petition filed at Court of Appeal.

Parliament Due To Convene Tomorrow (27)

Parliament is due to be convened
tomorrow (27)at 1.30 p.m.

However an agenda has not been finalised yet regarding tomorrow's Parliamentary proceedings .United National Front who has the majority of support in the parliament along with other parties supporting it have planned to take up a proposal regarding cutting off the expenditure of Prime Minister's office for debate it has been revealed last week .

Meanwhile the members of Minority government appointed by President lead by Appointed Premier Mahinda Rajapakshe have not yet decided whether to participate or not  tomorrow's proceedings it has been reported .They are due to decide on participating Parliament proceedings during a meeting of minority government MP's scheduled to be held in Parliament tomorrow morning.

The public and VIP Galleries will remain closed during tomorrow's Parliamentary proceedings as well and security has tightened in and around Parliament Complex .

Chief Justice Has Appointed A Seven Member Judge Panel To Hear Petitions Against Dissolvement Of Parliament

Chief Justice Nalin Perera has today

(26)appointed a seven member Judge Panel instead of three member Judge Panel chaired by him to hear the Petitions filed against Dissolvement of Parliament by the President Maithripala Sirisena .

Accordingly the new Judge Panel is comprising of Chief Justice Nalin Perera  (Head),Judges Priyantha Jayawardana, Prasanna Jayawardana, Buwaneka Aluvihare ,Sisira De A brew, Vijitha Malalgoda and Madhu Fernando.

The seven member Judge Panel has been appointed after considering a motion filed at Supreme Court by the leader of Sri Lanka Podu Jana Peramuna (Sri Lanka People's Ieofressive Front- Pohottuwa symbol )Professor G. L.Pieris by requesting to appoint a complete Judge Panel Comprising of more than five member Judge Panel today hear the petitions against dissolvement of Parliament.

The Judge Panel is due to hear the Petitions filed by several.political parties and Civil organization's against Dissolving Parliament on 04th ,05 th and 06 th of December and verdict is due to be delivered on 07th of December .

Petitioners have requested the Court to issue an order stating The dissolvement of Parliament is illegal .Court had already issued an  interim order suspending the gazette notification issued regarding dissolvement of Parliament until 07 th of December .

Dr.Palitha AbeyKoon Appointed As The New President Of Sri Lanka Medical Council

Appointed Health Minister of the

minority Government has appointed the chairman of National Authority on  Tobacco And Alcohol   Dr.Palitha AbeyKoon as the New president of Sri Lanka Medical Council today (26 ).

The appointment will be valid for five year period  it has been announced.The post of Medical Council President fell vacant after  former President of the Council Professor Colvin Gunaratna has resigned from the post recently.

Meanwhile some professionals have stated there's a question of validity on the appointments made by a minority government not recognised by Parliament and  other countries.
