Around 1700 Non Born Infants Are Dying Annually In Sri Lanka

Around 1700 non born Infants are  dying in their Mother's womb annually and another 1550 infants are dying within first week after born in Sri Lanka mostly due to Birth Defects according to the Perinatal Society Of Sri Lanka.

Most of these infants are premature babies and cause for more than 35% of these deaths has not yet been identified the Perinatal Society has stressed.

According to it's past Chairman Dr.Kapila Jayaratne changing of Genes ,Environmental affects as well as diseases occurred during pregnancy have caused birth defects which is the main cause for most of these deaths. 

Addressing a Media Seminar held today(02) at the Health Promotions Bureau in Colombo,Dr.Jayaratne says that these infant deaths can be prevented through identifying the root of the diseases from a scientific mechanism.The seminar was held regarding the International Birth Defects day.

A Person Was Critically Injured Due To A Motorcycle-Three Wheeler-Tipper Collision

A 70 year old Motorcyclist was critically injured and hospitalized after the Motorcycle he was
riding in colliding with a Three Wheeler and run over by a Tipper Truck at Siddamulla area on Piliyandala-Kottawa road this morning(02).

The critically injured Motorcyclist who is a resident of Siddamulla area had admitted to a Private
Hospital in Piliyandala for treatment.

A tense Situation Occurred In Kiri Vehera Premises Yesterday (01) After An Elephant Went On Rampage


A tense situations has occurred at Kiri Vehera premises in Kataragama last noon(01) after Elephant "Bhanu" attached to  the Abayaramaya  Temple in Kiri Vehera went on rampage while he was taking to a bath by the Mahout.

 The Mahaut had managed to control the Elephant after long struggle it has been revealed.However no one was injured and no damage was done to the Temple property due to the incident.

Army Officer Who Caused The Grenade Explosion In A Bus At Diyathalawa Was Arrested And Remanded

Police have arrested a  Sargent Major of  Sri Lanka Army who had brought the Hand Grenade which exploded in a Private Bus at Diyathalawa,Kahagolla recently while receiving treatment received due to the explosion at Diyathalawa Hospital today(02).

After producing before the Bandaeawela Magistrate Court he was remanded until 15th of March by the Magistrate.

Nineteen passengers including  Twelve Army and Air force personal were injured and Hospitalized due to the fire occurred in the bus follows by the Hand Grenade  explosion on 21st of February .The suspected Army personal had brought the Grenade from Jaffna and while attempting to put that inside a bag from his trouser pocket it exploded it has been revealed.

Army Commander Lineament General Mahesh Senanayake had appointed a Six member Committee comprising with senior Army Officers to conduct an inquiry over the incident.

Experts said the study was a herald of the future of diabetes care but changes to treatment would not be immediate.Diabetes affects about one in 11 adults worldwide and increases the risk of heart attack, stroke, blindness, kidney failure and limb amputation.
