Residents Of 130 Houses Near The Meethotamulle Gabage Dump Evacuated From Their Houses Due To A Risk State

Residents of 130 houses located near the

Meethotamulle Garbage Dump which are in risk state had been ecacuated today (15) from their houses and stationed in safe places according to the authorities.

These houses are in risk as theirs a threat of collapse of a further section of the Garbage Dump the National Building Research Organization (NBRO).

Meanwhile 19 persons confirmed as dead upto now due to the collapsing of a section of the Meethotamulle Garbage Dump yesterday (14).

Around 145 Houses Damaged And Destroyed Due To The Garbage Dump Collapse

Around 145 houses damaged and

destroyed due to the Meethotamulle Garbage Dump collapse according to the Police Media Spokesman's office .

More than 600 persons belonging to 180 displaced families in the area are currently temporarily stationed in near by temple ,Terrance De Silva Collage in Kolonnawa and community centers around it has been revealed .

The electricity supply to the area was temporarily cut off as a precautionary measure as the rescue operation is still continuing .

Around 17 persons confirmed as dead upto now due to the collapse of Meethotamulle Garbage Dump.

Meanwhile Police have arrested 20 persons who attempted to steel the valuable goods at damaged houses near the Garbage Dump today(15). The suspects are due to produce before the court .

A Three Wheeler Driver Was Killed And Another Person Was Injured Due To A Three Wheeler-Jeep Collision

A 63 year old Three Wheeler driver was

killed and a passenger travelling in the Three Wheeler was injured and hospitalized due to a Three Wheeler -Jeep collision in Serankada area at Padiyathalawa today (15).

Due to the head on collision between the Three Wheeler and the Jeep the 63 year old Three Wheeler driver and the passenger had been admitted to the Padiyathalawa Hospital for treatment and the Driver had succumbed to his injuries after being transferred to Maha Oya hospital for further treatment .

Padiyathalawa Police have arrested the Jeep Driver regarding the accident  .

Government Decided To Dispose Colombo Garbage To Two Alternative Places

Government has decided to dispose the

garbage collected in Colombo to two altetnative places following the collapsing of a section of a Meethotamulle Garbage Dump.

The decision was taken during a meeting held this morning (15) under the patronage  of President Maithripala Sirisena according to the Deputy
Foreign Minister Dr.Harsha De Silva.

A committee has been appointed to look into a long term mechanism on disposing garbage collected in Colombo City according to the Deputy Minister .

The Committee is due to meet tomorrow(16) to discuss the matter .
