Health Minister Oppose The Budget Proposal On Getting Rs.500 Million Grant From Tobacco Company

Minister Of Health,Nutrition and indigenous Medicine
Dr.Rajitha Senaratne has opposed the proposal made through the Budget -2017 by requesting the Tobacco Company to transfer Rs.500 million grant to the Presidential Fund in view of using if for an Anti Tobacco Progtamme.

This proposal is against the clauses of World Health Organization's Framework Convention  On Tobacco Control (FCTC)signed by 182 countries in the world including Sri Lanka in 2003  the Minister has stated.

Under the FCTC getting a financial grant from Tobacco Company for  a programme conduct by Health Sector is an unethical Minister has stressed.

Sri Lanka is the first country in Asia which  signed  the convention .

Former Minister Basil Rajapakshe Sought Permission From Colombo High Court To Go Abroad

Rajapskshe who has faced several bribery allegations had today (22)sought permission from the  Colombo High Court to go abroad.

The Colombo High Court Judge Sarojani Kusala weerawardena has requested the Attorney General to make recommendations by 25th  to the court regarding Former Minister Basil Rajapakshe's request.
