Health Minister To Impose 15% VAT On Cigarettes

Image result for vat taxAfter the Cabinet approved the proposal to increase  tax percentage imposed on Cigarettes ,steps will be taken to imposed a 15% VAT(Value Added Tax) on cigarettes the Minister Of Health,Nutrition and Indigenous  Medicine Dr.Rajitha Senaratne has stated today(29).

The Health Minister and the President Maithripala Sirisena had jointly submitted a Cabinet Paper to the Cabinet recently on increasing Cigarette Taxes to 90% from 72%.

After receiving the approval from Finance Ministry ,Cabinet is due to approve the paper  the Minister has revealed during a function held at Hotel Kingsbury this morning.

Vice President Of World Bank For South Asia Region Arrived In Sri Lanka

Image result for annette dixon vice president world bankThe vice president of World Bank for the South Asia region Annette Dixon has arrived in Sri Lanka today(29) for a two day official visit.

During her visit she is due to meet with several senior state officials and hold talks it has been reported.The Vice President of the World Bank is also due to inspect few projects implemented in the Northern Province.

After assumed her duties as a vice president of the World Bank  in 2014 this is the third time Annette Dixon visiting Sri Lanka.

A Six Year Old Girl Had Drowned While Bathing In Kala Oya

Image result for drownedA six year old girl had drowned at Kala Oya(Anuradhapura District) this morning near Galganuwa  area while bathing there it has been reported.The girl was on her way home after went to Anuradhapura for picnic with her family members when this tragedy occurred it has been reported.

The deceased girl who is a resident of Thihariya In Kalagedihena area was rescued.but succumbed to her injuries on the admission to Thambuththegama Base Hospital according to reports.

The remains of the girl is there at the Hospital pending s post mortem.

Three Persons Were Killed And One Injured And Hospitalized Due To Road Accidents In Katunayake And Southern Express Highways

Image result for katunayake expresswayThree persons were killed and one person critically  injured as a result of two separate road accidents occurred on Katunayake and Southern Express Highways last evening and this morning .

Accordingly two persons were killed and another injured as the car they were traveling in crashed into a lamp post at near the interchange of Katunayake Express Highway at Ja Ela and  the critically injured person a 19 year old boy was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital it has been reported.

In another incident a 25 year old was killed at Akmmemana in Southern Express Highway last evening as a result of a Car-Cab collision.The body of the deceased had been sent to Karapitiya Teaching Hospital for an autopsy.


A Sudden Fire Erupted At Jaya Terminal In Colombo Harbor
