Kosgama Hospital Has Been Damaged Severely Due To Army Camp Fire

The Kosgama Provincial Hospital situated near the salawa Army Camp where the fire erupted has been severely damaged due to the fire according to Ministry Of Health,Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine.

All the resident patients in Kosgama Hospital have been transferred to the Awissawella Base Hospital as a result the Ministry has stated.

Fire Broke Out At Salawa Army Camp Brought Under Control-CID Launched An Investigation

The fire fighters with the assistance of Army Personal had managed to douse the fire after a long battle launched since last evening.

Soon after the first explosion occurred at Army Camp the residents living in surrounding areas of the Camp in salawa fled away from their homes as debris of the ammunition's and weapons burnt hitting the main road and houses.

The Colombo-Awissawella main road was closed by the authorities as a result.

Meanwhile the Criminal Investigations Department(CID) has launched an investigation to find the cause of the explosion.






A fire that erupted was brought under control as of Monday morning (06), the Army Spokesperson said.

Attempts were made to douse a fire that erupted in the ammunition dump at Kosgama Army Camp according to the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva.

Firefighters with the cooperation of soldiers had thrown their full weight behind the efforts after setting up road blocks on both sides of the Kosgama – Avissawella road.

Shortly after the first explosion, residents in Salawa were seen running from their homes in droves as police reported debris hitting the main highway and neighbourhoods.

The night sky was bright with an orange glow as huge fires raged and the area continued to shake every few minutes. Flying debris could be seen from three kilometres (two miles) away, a photographer said, and military officials warned residents not to touch anything that might be an unexploded device.

Law and Order Minister Sagala Ratnayake said the police Criminal Investigation Department had been asked to look into the cause of the explosions.

“Our priority is to save lives,” Ratnayake told reporters. “But we have already asked the CID to investigate.”

He said the fire had spread quickly to two ammunition depots within the military complex and emergency responders struggled to extinguish it because they could not reach the source.

One Army Personal Was Killed And Eight Injured Due To Fire At Salawa Army Camp

Image result for salawa army camp fireOne Army Personal was killed and eight others injured due to the fire brikeout in Army Camp at Salawa,Kosgama yesterday(05) evening according to  reports.

Around 39 persons residing in surrounding areas of the Army Camp have receieved treatment due to various particles disperse as a result of heavy weaponary and ammunitions stored in the camp caught fire the sources have stated.

Meanwhile the military authorities have today(06) announced that those who fled away due to the fire and living over 1 KM radius area from the Army Camp can returned their homes as the  fire has doused already.

Authorities have yesterday closed the COLOMBO-AWISSAWELLA main road as a result of the fire and asked the residents nearby the camp to evacuate from their houses.

More Than 6000 Tonnes Of Garbage Has Been Collected From Flood Hit Areas In Colombo

Image result for garbage collected flood areas colomboDuring last four days more than 6000 tonnes of garbage has been collected from flood affected areas in Colombo according to Ministry Of Provincial Councils And Local Government.

The collected garbage has been dumped into a land situated in Kolonnawa(In Colombo) the Ministry has stated.The Ministry has used more than 100 vehicles and garbage collecting machines for collecting garbage from flood affected areas the Ministry has added.

The flood debris was also among the garbage collected from flood hit areas of Colombo it has been reported.
