Joint Opposition MP'S Have Launched A Campaign To Get One Million Signatures For A Petition

A group of Joint Opposition Parliamentarians which  is supporting former president Mahinda Rajapakshe has launched a campaign this morning to get one million signatures for a petition which urges the government to ensure the safety of local Soldiers and War Heroes.

The Campaign to sign the petition has been launched at Sri Sambuddaloka Viharaya(Temple) in Colombo and the former president Mahinda Rajapakshe was first to sign the petition according to reports.

The former defense secretary Gotabaya Rajapakshe  and several former  and current parliamentarians have been signed the petition the reports have said.

A Section Of A Southern Expressway To Be Closed Down Tomorrow(09) For Two Hours

The Southern Expressway from Welipanna to Kurundugahahathakma is due to be closed down from 1 P.M to 3 P.M for traffic from Galle to Colombo according to Highway Police.

The line will be closed in view of removing a container which met an accident at the Southern Expressway the Police have said.

The Highway Police have requested the motorists to use an alternative routes during the closure period.

Air Port Customs Officers Have Arrested A Sri Lankan Attempted To Smuggle 30,000 Euros Out Of The Country

The Air Port Customs Officers have arrested a 55 year old Sri Lankan Male early this morning at the Katunayake ,Bandaranike International Air Port while attempting to smuggle 30,000 Euros to Singapore by concealing them in his rectum.

The suspect has been arrested at the Departure Lounge of the Katunayake International Air Port and the amount of Euros he has carried in his rectum is worth Rs.4.9 million according to Customs Officers.

The Deputy Director Of Customs has launched an investigation on the incident.

Working Committee Of Governing United National Party Has Decided To Nominate Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka For A Vacant National List Parliamentary seat

The working committee of the governing United National Party(UNP) has today(08) unanimously decided to nominate the Democratic Party(DP) Leader and former Army Commander Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka for the National List Parliamentary Seat left vacant due to the death of M.K.A.D.S Gunawardena.

The decision to nominate Field Marshal Fonseka for the vacant seat came after a collective agreement signed between governing United National Party(UNP) led by Prime Minister Ranil Wikramsinghe  and Democratic Party led by Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka last week at Temple Trees in Colombo.

According to the agreement the Democratic Party became a member of governing United National Front led by United National Party.
