Three Toxic Substances In Pesticides Have Been Identified As The Cause For Chronicle Kidney Disease In North Central Province

Toxic substances Cadmium,Arsenic and Lead contained in Pesticides have been identified as the main causes for the unidentified   chronicle kidney disease spreading in North Central Province according to Advisor of World Health Organization(WHO) Dr.Mrs.Shanthi Mendis.the WHO Research Report issued Today(26) on Chronicle Kidney Disease in the North Central Province has stated that these toxins have contained in urine of kidney patients in the province in levels sufficient to damage the kidneys.

Cadmium has seen in high levels in waters of North Central Province as well as in food and lead too in sufficient levels Dr.Mendis has said.arsenic too contained in medium level and these substances entered in to human body of people in North Central Province through the food chain she has revealed.

While stating that the WHO Research Team on Chronicle Kidney Disease in North Central Province has not underestimated the research done on the disease by a research team in Kelaniya University recently which found high levels of Arsenic contained in Pesticides and Fertilizers imported to Sri Lanka  has caused the spreading of the disease Dr.Mendis has stressed that WHO it self recommended the government to restrict the using of five imported pesticides contained high levels of arsenic in  Sri Lanka.

Dr.Mendis has revealed this at the launching ceremony of  Research Report on Chronicle Kidney Disease in North Central Province compiled by World Health Organization held at BMICH in Colombo.

Meanwhile addressing at the occasion the MP Of Jathika Hela Urumaya Venerable Athuraliye Rathnasara has  said that Pesticides Imported Companies may have bought  local politicians for money to cover the issue of arsenic contained pesticides and fertilizers the same way tobacco companies have done to our politicians.

Land Powers Should Only Vested With Central Government-Supreme Court

The Supreme Court has today(26) unanimously decided that land powers should be vested with Central Government not with the Provincial Councils as stipulated by the 13th amendment of the Constitution.the three member bench compromising Chief Justice Mohan Pieiris ,Justice Eva Wanasundera and Justice S. Sripavan were given three judgments in this regard by stating that  land powers will be vested only with the central government.

Recently some opposition parties have demanded from the government  that Provincial Councils should have given land and police powers vested with government .

Mannar Judicial Magistrate Has Released 41 Detained Tamil Nadu Fishermen

The Judicial Magistrate In Mannar Court(Northern Province) Anandhi Kankarathinam has ordered yesterday(24) to release 41 Tamil Nadu Fishermen from Rameshwaram and Mandapam areas who were in navy  custody.out of these fishermen 21 were arrested on 05th of July and 20 were arrested on 05th of August while illegally fishing in Sri Lankan waters.

Although fishermen got released mannar  judicial magistrate has ordered  the detention of  t ten boats which used  by Tamil Nadu Fishermen.these boats are in navy custody at present.

Meanwhile 35 Tamil Nadu Fishermen who were detained by sri lankan navy and released later by Vavuniya Court recently are still there in the country awaiting the releasing of their boats for ferrying them to India.

GMOA To Launch An Island Wide Strike Within Two Weeks

Government Hospital Doctors have decided to launch an island wide strike during next two weeks if the authorities have failed to implement Service Constitution of Doctors  the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) has said today(24).

The general assembly of GMOA is due to meet on 29th of this month to decide the dates of the strike it has been revealed.

GMOA Want Hospital Directors To Take Responsibility On Doctors Transfers

The Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) has said today(24) that if an unit or a ward of a Government  Hospital getting paralyzed due to the transferring of Doctors without having a replacement medical administrators should take full responsibility of that."it is the duty of the Hospital Director to arrange a quick replacement for a transferred doctor of the hospital to maintain patient care service in highest level" the media spokesman of GMOA Dr.Naveen Soyza has said today(24).

"Hospital Directors can find a suitable replacements for transferred doctors withing the hospital it self "says Dr.,Soyza."around  40% out of 3179 annual doctors transfers were already have implemented during last week" he has stressed.

Few Incidents Reported During Northern Provincial Council Elections-N Gopalaswamy

The head of the South Asian Elections Monitory Group which observed the election activities in Northern Provincial Council Elections N.Gopalaswamy has said today(23) that few incidents like changing ballot boxes occurred in some polling booths in Northern Province and they have informed on this to the Elections Commissioner.

Mr.Goplaswamy who is also the former Elections Commissioner in India has said that they will handover a report on their observations done  during provincial council elections in north soon to the Elections Commissioner .speaking at a press briefing held in Hotel Galadari,Colombo this evening he has stressed that the details on whether the election held in free and fair manner too will be revealed through the report.

To make Sri Lankan Election System  a free and fair one more powers should be vested to the Elections Commissioner Mr.Gopalaswami has further said.

Ruling UPFA Has Become Vicorious In North Western And Central Provincial Council Elections

The Ruling United Peoples Freedom Alliance(UPFA) has won both the  North Western and Central Provincial Council Elections held Yesterday(21) with clear majority .The ruling United Peoples Freedom Alliance has secured 36 out of 56 seats of the Central Provincial Council with 716,247 votes while main opposition United National Party(UNP) has manged to secure 16 seats with 338,015 votes.

Meanwhile pushing third party force Janata Wimukthi Peramuna(JVP) fourth place the Democratic Party lead by former army commander general Sarath Fonseka has emerged as the new third party force in Sri Lankan politics by securing 02 seats in central provincial council with 45,239 votes.

In North Western Provincial Council Elections ruling UPFA again received highest number of votes to secure 34 out of the 52 seats in the council with 750,188 votes.the UNP has won 12 seats with 257,011 votes while Democratic Party of General Fonseka has won 03 seats with 46,114 votes.Sri Lanka Muslim Congress and JVP have secured 02 and 01 seats respectively.

Out of the two provincial council elections held in north western and central provinces the leftist JVP has only able to secure one seat .
