Appeals Court Has Issued Notices For PSC Members On PSC Findings Against Chief Justice

The appeals court has today(21)issued notices for the respondents including Parliament Speaker Chamal Rajapaksha of the case filed by Chief Justice Dr.Mrs.Shirani Bandaranaike by challenging findings of the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) appointed to probe on impeachment motion against her.speaker Chamal Rajapaksha ,General Secretary of Parliament and all members of PSC were issued notices returnable on 03rd of January.

The petition filed by Chief Justice on Wednesday through a legal firm requested the appeal court to issue an injunction order barring the recommendations by PSC report from being implemented.

Adverse Weather Pattern Inundated Several Areas And Land Slide Warnings Issued To Hill Country Areas

ns Around 21,000 people were severely affected in Several Districts throughout the island due to adverse weather pattern experienced since last few days it has been reported.  Five Districts were announced as  inundated due to the prevailing adverse weather Conditions and land slide warnings are issued to another 4 districts according to Disaster Management Center(DMC).the areas in Ampara,Batticloe,Polonnaruwa,Kurunagala and Hambanthota Districts were inundated due to the bad weather.

Meanwhile DMC has issued land slide warnings to districts of Kandy,Matale,Badulla and Nuwara Eliya Districts.

Six sluice gates in the Rajanganya,Inginimitiya and Udawalawe Reservoirs have been opened as a result of rising water levels it has been reported.

National Building Research Organization has also issued warning that there will  be risk of land slides and rock falls in hill country areas if the rain fall continues in next 24 hours.

Meanwhile train services on the Northern and Central Lines were terminated at Kurunagala and Nanu Oya due to flooding and derailment in several locations Sri Lanka Railways has announced.a train service between Idalgashinna and Ohiya on the upcountry railway line was derailed due to an earth slip it has announced.

Due to the adverse weather pattern experienced in several parts of the country more than 9 people including infants were died due to rock/tree falls and earth slips during last few days.

Bar Association To Not To Support A New Chief Justice If Incumbant Chief Justice Is Removed Without A Fair Trial

While the Bar Association Of Sri Lanka(BASL) has passed three resolutions yesterday (15) on not to support a newly appointed Chief Justice if the  incumbent Chief Justice Dr.Mrs Shirani Bandaranaike is removed without conducting a fair trial ,the vice president of the association Anoma Gunathilake has announced her resignation as a protest over not passing resolutions through a ballot.

The Bar Association Meeting was conducted upon a request signed by  400 of it's members has passed three resolution on chief justice by showing hands of it's members without holding a ballot.a tense situation was a risen due to this situation which was later brought under control.

Price Of A Petrol Liter Has Increased

The price of a liter of Octane 90 Petrol has been increased by Rs.10 with effect from midnight yesterday(14) Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) has announced.according to the new price revision  new price of  Octane 90 Petrol will be Rs.159 per liter.

Professions Supplementary To Medicine To Launch Two Day Strike Acton Next Week

The Professions Supplementary To Medicine(PSM'S) attached to government hospitals have decided to launch a two day island wide strike  on next Tuesday (18) and Wednesday(19) by demanding solutions for 10 of their service demands. PSM'S compromising Government Pharmacists,Radiographers,Medical Laboratory Technologists(MLT's) ,Physiotherapists and occupational therapists are due to participate this two day strike according to Joint Council Of Professions Supplementary To Medicine.

However PSM'S attached to Castle Street Maternity Hospital,De Soyza Maternity Hospital,Cancer Hospital Maharagama,Lady Ridgway Children's Hospital and Sirimawo Bandaranaike Memorial Children's Hospital will not participate this strike due to humanitarian reasons the joint Council has stated.

The  PSM's have demanding solutions for 10 service demands including increase of their allowances,recruiting unemployed graduates of  professions supplementary to medicine and implementing delayed promotions of grade 1 PSM'S .

Health Ministry Has Freed 28 Personal Who Were Found Guilty For Using Expired Blood Kits

The Ministry Of Health has taken steps to free Twenty Eight members attached to  National Blood Transfusion Center in Colombo including former head of the center Dr.Mrs.Mangalika Bindusara from all charges which they have found guilty regarding issuing of expired Plasma Pherasis and A Pherasis Blood Transfusion Kits for  patients .

The Ministry has taken this decision  according to a  recommendation made by public services commission health ministry sources said.the 28 respondents including a group of doctors were found guilty on issuing of Rs 2.5 million worth  expired blood kits for the patients in the year 2008  through a preliminary investigations carried out by special investigations unit of the Ministry.after examining the report then health ministry secretary Dr.Atula Kahanda Liyanage has suspended all those  found guilty  from their services while referring the report to PSC.

Massive Protest Against Report On Chief Justice

A massive protest  organized by political party members and trade unions  in front of Lipton circus this evening  has caused closing down of several roads in the area.the protest was held to oppose  the report submitted by parliamentary select committee (PSC) against chief justice Dr.Mrs.Shirani Bandaranaike .

The protestors were seen carrying posters stating that through the impeachment motion government has trying to destroy independent judiciary .
