Massive Protest Against Report On Chief Justice

A massive protest  organized by political party members and trade unions  in front of Lipton circus this evening  has caused closing down of several roads in the area.the protest was held to oppose  the report submitted by parliamentary select committee (PSC) against chief justice Dr.Mrs.Shirani Bandaranaike .

The protestors were seen carrying posters stating that through the impeachment motion government has trying to destroy independent judiciary .

PSC Probed On Impeachment Motion Against Chief Justice Handed Over The Report To Speaker

Despite all opposition members withdrawn from the committee yesterday (07)the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC)probing impeachment motion against Chief Justice Dr.Mrs.Shirani Bandaranaike has presented the report on  it's findings to the Parliamentary Speaker Chamal Rajapaksha this morning.

The report which was presented to the speaker by PSC Chairman government MP Anura Priyadarshana Yapa contains evidences given by 16 witnesses on 2 charges out of 14 charges made against chief justice through the impeachment motion it has been reported.

The speaker Chamal Rajapaksha has informed  Parliament that the  debate on PSC report will begin in one month time after 08th of January next year.speaker has allocated 10 days to begin the debate.after the debate the report is scheduled to be passed with simple majority according to Parliamentary Sources.

Meanwhile the opposition members who withdrawn from PSC yesterday claimed that the 11 member PSC does not follow formal procedures,

Opposition Members Of PSC Follows CJ'S Move By Withdrawn From The Committe

As chairman of the 11 member Parliamentary Selection Committee (PSC) probing the charges in impeachment motion against chief justice Dr.Mrs.Shirani Bandaranaike  has rejected the conditions made by opposition members of PSC all opposition members of the committee withdrawn from proceedings yesterday(08).meanwhile all opposition members in Parliament staged a walk out yesterday evening as a protest on PSC's refusal of  the conditions made by opposition members .  chairman of PSC government MP Anura Priyadarshan Yapa has refused to accept condition made by opposition members to remain in the panel further.

As a protest supposition members United National Party (UNP) MP's John Amaratunge and Lakashman Kirialle ,Tamil National Alliance(TNA) MP R.Sampanthan and Democratic National Alliance(DNA) MP Vijitha Herath were withdrawn from the proceedings of the committee.

Meanwhile group of government MP's claimed the withdrawal of  chief justice and opposition MP's from PSC is a tactical move.

Chief Justice Walked Away From PSC Hearing Citing.....

Chief Justice Dr.Mrs.Shirani Bandaranike has walked out from the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC)hearing this evening citing lack of faith the way PSC is handling the hearing it has been reported.her lawyers too have informed the PSC members that they have no faith on the way committee has handling the case and would not participate the proceedings hereafter.

Mrs.Bandaranaike was attended the PSC hearing  held  today around 2.30 p.m at Parliamentary Complex 1 on 14 financial and personal   misconduct charges leveled against her through  impeachment motion.

It has been reported that there were lot of arguments between two sides during the hearing held from 2.30 -6 p.m to day.the lawyers of chief justice have argued that their client was not provided the relevant documents to prove the charges against her.

Chief Justice has already denied financial charges raised against her through her lawyers.the PSC was hearing impeachment charges against Chief Justice since last month.meanwhile some of  the government politicians and trade unions repeatedly demanding  chief justice mrs.bandaranaike to step down from her post till the PSC hearing concludes.

Two Fetuses Aborted Daily In Sri Lanka Per 3 Infants Born

Two fetuses are aborted  daily for  three infants  born daily in Sri Lanka according to researchers.around 650-750 abortions are taking palce daily in Sri Lanka and majority of these are catagorized as illegal ones.

According to Dr.Chitramalee De Silva the deputy director of Family Health Bureau in Sri Lanka there is a growing demand among married couples who are having two children  on aborting unwanted preganancies.the reasons they are given for this situation are economic difficulties,having completed family and their last child is very small she has  stressed.as abortion is illegal in Sri Lanka lots of maried women who are having unwanted pregnancies turn to illegal abortion centers to terminate their fetus she said.

Meanwhile the marraiges among teanagers  are in increase and this too caused an increase of both unwanted pregnancies and abortions it has been revealed.muslim girls who are known as getting married at the ages of 15 and 16 are contributed to this heavily Dr.Mrs.Silva has said.out of the total number of marraiges taking place in Sri Lanka annualy 6.5 % are teanage marraiges it has been revealed.

These facts were revealed during a media conference held today (05) at Sri Lanka Family Planning Association Auditorium in Colombo on "Ünsafe Abortions"

Chief Justice Was Testified On Impeachment motion.

Chief Justice Dr.Mrs.Shirani Bandaranaike has appeared before parliamentary select committee this morning to testified 14 impeachment charges made against her .parliamentary select committee headed by government minister  has convened the second round of hearing on impeachment charges against chief justice this morning.Dr.Mrs.Shirani Bandaranike has denied any financial wrongdoing as raised through the impeachment motion.

The Buddhist Clergy along with other religious dignitaries were  gathered in front of Supreme Court  this morning to blessed the chief justice before she left for the proceedings.
