Health Ministry Fined Rs.21,00,000 From 2900 Premises During Anti Mosquito Week

The Ministry Of Health has taken legal action against 2900 Residents and Institution Owners Islandwide who were caught during the National Anti Mosquito week (20-25 June)for maintaining Dengue Mosquito Breeding Places and fined them Rs.21,00,000 according to the Health Ministry Sources.Legal Action will be taken soon against another 7167 Premises which are maintaining Dengue Mosquito Breeding Places Ministry Sources said.

Another 121,640 Premises which are in risk of breeding Dengue Mosquitoes identified during the Anti Mosquito Week and around 268,258 Premises which were informed to be clean will face a legal action if they are not able to clean their places withing the given two week period according to the Health Officials.

Meanwhile the Health Workers have said that although the Presidential Secretraiet along with Ministry Of Health have announced  that during the said Mosqutio Week Inspections will carryout throughout the Island the Dengue Control Activities have not seen in  most of the Sub Roads and Some Main Roads during the week.

75 Percent Of The Annual Hospital Deaths Are Due To Non Communicable Diseases

Around 75 percent of the Total number of Hospital Deaths reported annually from Sri Lanka  occured due to Non Communicable Diseases(NCD) the Director of Non Communicable Diseases Unit of the  MinistryOf Health Dr.Thalatha Liyanage has said today.

Addressing a Workshop on "Prevention and Control NCD's in Sri Lanka -The Role and Responsibilities of key Stake Holders" Dr.Liyanage has stressed that out of the total number  died due to NCD's 38% percent are died due to Injuries and 35 percent are due to Cardiovascular Diseases.Cancer 12%,Diabetese 6% ,Mental Disorders 1% ,Asthma and other Respiratory Diseases 8% are other NCD's that contributing to the annual Hospital Deaths in the Country.

Unhealthy Diet,Smoking,Alcohol,Lack Of Excercise are the main reasons  that caused  NCD's in Sri Lanka according to Dr.Liyanage.

Twenty Six Schools In Kinniya Closed Due To Teachers Protest

 Twenty Six Schools based in Kinniya of the Trincomalee District became standstill today due to a protest staged by the Teachers of those  Schools.As the Teachers were absent Principles sent the children back home according to the sources. 

The Teachers were staged the protest demanding the arrest of those responsible for the assault of the Kinniya Zone Educational Director occurred  last evening.

An Eye Disorder Spreads In Most Parts Of The Country

Opthamalogists apealed the local public to be in alert  on an Eye Disorder known as "Viral Conjunctivitis"which has spread in most parts of the Country these days.Around 50 -60 Patients suffering from this Eye Disorder are seeking medical treatment daily in National Eye Hospital  according to Hospital Sources.

Red Eyes,Irritating and Watering are the main symptoms of this Eye Disorder and Public are advised to take Proper Medical Treatment and take some rest if the symptoms occured to prevent spreading the disease to others.

Surgeries In Hambanthota Hospital Become Standstill Due To A Fault In AC System

The Surgeries performed in  only Theatre at Hambanthota General Hospital (Southern Province) became standstill since few days due to the fault of Air Condition System fixed in the Theatre.Due to this large number of patients who are in the Surgery List and the Staff are facing difficulties according to the Hospital Sources.

Around 60 Surgeries have been performed at the Hospital Theatre daily and due to the halting of Surgeries the Emergancy cases are transfer to Matara General Hospital the sources further said.

Two Varities Of Margarines And Number Of Biscuits In The Local Market Are Under Fire Due To Not Carrying A Warning Label On Harmful Anti Oxident

Two varities of Margarines and number of Biscuits in the local market are identified as containing a harmful anti oxident E 319 which is harmful for Infants and Children under 3 years according to the Secretary of the Sri Lanka Public Health Officers Association  L.G Rohana.Although a warning label  stating  the product is harmful for children under 3 years should be in the carton or pack when selling food items which contain the above anti oxident is necessary, those producers have violated the procedure by not carrying such a label in their products Mr.Rohana has stressed.

It has been reported that due to not carrying a warning label infants and children too are consuming these Margarines and Biscuits which may have cause neuro and bladder related illneses among them.

Taking view on this situation the Public Health Officers Association has decided to take a legal action against these producers who violated the procedure by not carrying a warning label on their food products containing E 319 he added.Meanwhile Public Health Officers under the court rule given by the Rural Magistrate Court few days back have already launched an islandwide inspection on a locally made Margerine  which has  idenfied as selling without such warning label .

All these Food Products under fire are received the approval from the authorities to sell in local markets according to sources.When contacted a higher official of the Ministry Of Health has said that they will decide the future course of action against these food manufacturers after receiving the legal docuement related to the court order given against locally made Margarine.

ICC Imposed Three Month Ban Over Sri Lankan Opening Batsman Upul Tharanga

The International Cricket Council(ICC) has imposed three month suspension over   Sri Lankan Opening Batsman Upul Tharanga in all forms of cricket as he proved positive for using  two banned substances during the recently concluded World Cup Tournament in sub continent.

According to the ICC Tharanga was positive for  using two steroids Prednisone and Prednisolone during the world cup Semi Final match played between Sri Lanka and New Zeeland on 29th of March at Colombo this year.He appeared before the Anti Doping Tribunal on Friday.
