Surgeries In Hambanthota Hospital Become Standstill Due To A Fault In AC System

The Surgeries performed in  only Theatre at Hambanthota General Hospital (Southern Province) became standstill since few days due to the fault of Air Condition System fixed in the Theatre.Due to this large number of patients who are in the Surgery List and the Staff are facing difficulties according to the Hospital Sources.

Around 60 Surgeries have been performed at the Hospital Theatre daily and due to the halting of Surgeries the Emergancy cases are transfer to Matara General Hospital the sources further said.

Two Varities Of Margarines And Number Of Biscuits In The Local Market Are Under Fire Due To Not Carrying A Warning Label On Harmful Anti Oxident

Two varities of Margarines and number of Biscuits in the local market are identified as containing a harmful anti oxident E 319 which is harmful for Infants and Children under 3 years according to the Secretary of the Sri Lanka Public Health Officers Association  L.G Rohana.Although a warning label  stating  the product is harmful for children under 3 years should be in the carton or pack when selling food items which contain the above anti oxident is necessary, those producers have violated the procedure by not carrying such a label in their products Mr.Rohana has stressed.

It has been reported that due to not carrying a warning label infants and children too are consuming these Margarines and Biscuits which may have cause neuro and bladder related illneses among them.

Taking view on this situation the Public Health Officers Association has decided to take a legal action against these producers who violated the procedure by not carrying a warning label on their food products containing E 319 he added.Meanwhile Public Health Officers under the court rule given by the Rural Magistrate Court few days back have already launched an islandwide inspection on a locally made Margerine  which has  idenfied as selling without such warning label .

All these Food Products under fire are received the approval from the authorities to sell in local markets according to sources.When contacted a higher official of the Ministry Of Health has said that they will decide the future course of action against these food manufacturers after receiving the legal docuement related to the court order given against locally made Margarine.

ICC Imposed Three Month Ban Over Sri Lankan Opening Batsman Upul Tharanga

The International Cricket Council(ICC) has imposed three month suspension over   Sri Lankan Opening Batsman Upul Tharanga in all forms of cricket as he proved positive for using  two banned substances during the recently concluded World Cup Tournament in sub continent.

According to the ICC Tharanga was positive for  using two steroids Prednisone and Prednisolone during the world cup Semi Final match played between Sri Lanka and New Zeeland on 29th of March at Colombo this year.He appeared before the Anti Doping Tribunal on Friday.

1811 House And Institution Owners To Face Legal Action Over Maintaining Dengue Mosquito Breeding Places

Health Ministry along with the Presidential Dengue Task Foce yesterday (23) issued notices to 1811 House and Institution owners  Islandwide on taking legal action against them for  maintaining Dengue Mosquito Breeding Places in their backyards.

Altogether 84,509 Houses and Institutions throughout the Island were inspected during yesterday under the National Anti Mosquito Week by the Dengue Inspection Teams and out of them 24,982 Houses and Institutions are identified as risky areas of Dengue Mosquito Breeding.Officers strictly warned owners of 48,841 Houses and Institutes who are maintaining Dengue Mosquito Breeding Places to clean these places withing two weeks else face a leagal action.

Since the commencement of the week  on last Monday Around 280,772 Places were inspected by the inspection Teams up to now according to Health Ministry Sources.

Academics And Intellectuals Appeal From Certain Groups To Avoid Spreading Rumours On Unidentified Renal Failure Disease

The Doctors and Academics attached to  newly formed National Intellectuals and Professionals Organization have said today that the real cause for the unidentified Chronic Renal Failure spreading in North Central Province of the country still not known while rejecting that the real cause is "Arsenic" Poison contain in Pesticides use for Paddy Fields as predicted by a group of Intellectuals last week.

Addressing a Press Briefing held at the National Library Services Board in Colombo this evening Academics attached to the organization have said that still the research on unidentified Renal Failure has not concluded while admitted that the  Academics should not comment on causes   what they believe as correct  without any scientific proof.

Government To Increase Private Bus Fares In July

The Government has decided to increase the Private Bus fares by 7.6 percent with the minimum fare to Rs.7 with effect from July Private Transport Minister C.B Ratnayake has announced today.

According to the new price revision the Minimum Bus Fare has increased to Rs.7 from Rs 6 and all other Bus Fare Categories also increased by Rs.1.

Due To The Increasing Number Of Dengue Mosquito Lavae Present Dengue Control Methods Became Useless -Entamology Assistants

As the the number of Dengue Mosquito Lavae increased by more then three times during last four months it's become hard to control the spreading of present Dengue Epidemic through the traditional methods currently adapted by the authorities the Secretary of the Government Entamology Assistants Union Mr.Najith Sumanasena has said.

According to him the Dengue Mosquito Lavae index was stood as 5 in the month of February and now at present the index is nearing 20.If the authorities really want to eliminate the Dengue Epidemic from the country they should have form  special mosquito control squads like in Cuba and introduced tougher laws including  spot fine system Mr.Sumanasena has stressed.

Without taking such meassures the authorities will only able to see little success in controling Dengue Epidemic  he has  further stated.
