Parliament Postponed Debate On Private Sector Pension Scheme


The Parliamentary Sessions  held today(27th) had only lasted one hour as there is a court case regarding  the  subject scheduled to be discussed  in today's  session, the controversial "private sector pensions scheme".As there is a court case pending on the subject,the Parliamentary Session was postponed till the 03rd of May.

The Debate on the the private sector pension scheme will be held when the Parliament meets on 03rd of May.

Lasith Malinga Has Officially Retired From Test Cricket

Sri Lanka's leading pace bowler Lasith Malinga has today officially announced his retirement from the Test Cricket citing a knee injury .Malinga who has taken 101 wickets from the 30 Test Matches he played said he is willing to continue playing One Day Internationals and T 20 Matches for Sri Lanka as well as the next World Cup Scheduled to held in the year 2015.

Malinga who is widely known as Slinga Malinga " was handed over the official letter of retiring from  the Test Cricket to the Sri Lankan Cricket Interim Board today.

Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council Passed A Resolution Against The UN Report

The Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council has unanimously passed a resolution today against the UN Report on alleged war crimes against Sri Lanka handed over to the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon.

According to the Council Chairman Ranjith Bandara the resolution which  passed today will be communicated to UN Secretary General soon.

Sri Lankan Government Again Rejected UN War Crimes Report Against Sri Lanka-Opposition UNP To Appoint A Committee On The Report

The Sri Lankan Government today has again  rejected the United Nations Panel report on alleged war crimes against Sri Lanka known as "Darusman Report" which made public by the UN today.

Sri Lankan Government has rejected the UN Report previously also when it was handed over to the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon two weeks back. Both the Sri Lankan Government and the main Opposition United National Party are strongly opposing the said UN Report which they said a threat to the Sovereignty of Sri Lanka.

The UN Report has said that there were human rights violations occurred during the final stage of  war against the terrorist group LTTE in the Northern Sri Lanka on  2009 which was strongly denied by the Sri Lankan Government.

The government has appointed a special committee compromising few former Foreign Secretaries to responding to the allegations made against Sri Lanka through the UN Panel Report and the main opposition UNP too has decided to appoint a special committee headed by former Senior Advisor Bradman Weerakoon  to study and provide feed back regarding the UN Report.According to the Acting General Secretary of the UNP Daya Palpola the Party will take a stand on  report after the study on the report is conducted and providing feed back to the party members.

Treasury Has Increased Taxes Imposed On Certain Cars And Tri Shaws

The Treasury has increased the total taxes on Cars below 1000 CC ,1000-1600 CC and Tri Shaws with effect from 21st of April .

According to this tax increase total taxes imposed on Cars below 1000 CC increased from 95 to 120 percent ,for 1000-1600 CC to be increased from 119 to 128 percent and taxes on tri shaw by 38 to 50 percent the treasury has announced.However the total taxes on all the petrol and diesal cars above 1600 CC will not subjected for increase according to the Department of Customs.

Heavy Showers To Continue Till Mid Of May?


The Adverse Weather Pattern with heavy showers prevails in the country these days will last till mid of May according to the Sri Lanka Meteorological Department.

The inter monsoon conditions have been caused the present weather pattern and an evening thunder showers will continue in most parts of the country while morning showers will occurred mainly in Southern and Western parts of the country during next few days with low level disturbance according to the Meteorologists.Also Northern and Eastern Parts of the country too will experienced heavy showers during next few days they said.

Meanwhile gates of Ten Tanks and Reservoirs had been opened today by the Irrigation Department as a result of the heavy showers.

Sri Lankan Pace Bowler Malinga To Retire From Test Cricket Citing Knee Injury- But Plays Luxurious IPL Tournment In India

Sri Lanka's Opening Pace Bowler Lasith Malinga has decided to  retire from Test Cricket due to a knee injury according to the Media Reports.However according to the the Secretary of the Sri Lankan Interim Cricket Board Nishantha Ranatunge, Malinga has still not informed the Cricket Board on his decision to retire from Test Cricket.

Pace Bowler Malinga who is widely known internationally as "Sling Shot Malinga" due to his extra ordinary bowling action has said although he is retiring from test cricket he will be available for ODI'S and T20 Games.He further added that his physical health is fine and only worry is the knee injury from which he is suffering since few years back which needs to manage carefully for his future cricketing career.

Malinga took 101 Test Wickets from 30 Test Matches he played so far.

Although Malinga talks on his knee injury he is currently playing for the Indian Premier League got under way in India  and representing "Mumbai Indians" Team owned by Indian Business Tycoon Mukesh Ambani.Malinga is also the leading wicket taker of the IPL by claiming 13 wickets from 5 matches he played so far.
