Public Relations Minister To Restrict Selling Of Certain Vegetables In Kelaniya Area


Certain Vegetables can grow in Home Gardens  including Tomatoes and Lady's Fingers will be prohibited to  sell in  the markets of Kelaniya Area in the Gampaha District with effect from end of this April according to the Minister Of Public Relations and Public Affairs Dr,Mervin Silva.He said that due to the sky rocketing prices of Vegetables in the local market Kelaniya residents should grow Tomatoes,Lady's Fingers,Green Chillies and Egg Plants in their home gardens.

According to the Minister Silva the authorities will provide the necessity vegetable seeds and fertilizer to the residents on affordable prices.

Murali And Sangakkara Achieved MileStones In World Cup Cricket

Although Sri Lanka lost to Pakistan in their Group A Match of the ICC World Cup Cricket Match played today Sri Lankan Off Spinner Muththaia Muralideran and Skipper Kumar Sangakkara becomes the second highest wicket taker(56 wickets) and wicket keeper with second highest dismissals(38 dismissals-30 catches and 8 stumpings) in World Cup Cricket Championships   respectively.

Sri Lanka Lost To Pakistan In Their Crucial World Cup Cricket Encounter By 11 Runs

The Co Hosts of the ICC World Cup Cricket Championships Sri Lanka was beaten by fellow Hosts Pakistan by 11 runs in their Group A Match played today at R.Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo after a nail biting finish .Pakistani Captain Shahid Afridi has won the toss and elected to bat first in the Day Night encounter began at 2.30 p.m Local Time and Pakistani Team  scored 277 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their 50 overs.

Pakistani striker Misbah-Ul-Haq top scored with 83 runs while veteren Cricketer Younis Khan had contributed 72 runs for the total.

In reply Sri Lanka began with an opening partnership of 75 runs between Thilakarathna Dilshan and Upul Tharanga,however failed to capitalize the innings as wickets fell regularly without a long partnership.Middle Order Batsman Chamara De Silva top scored with 57 runs and Thilakaratna Dilshan with 41 runs and Captain Kumar Sangakkara with 49 runs carried the Sri Lankan total to 266 for 9 wickets just short of 11 runs for the victory.Pakistani Captain Sahid Afridi is pick of the bowlers for his side while picking up 4 sri lankan wickets for just 34 runs.

Sri Lanka To Meet Pakistan Today In A Cruical World Cup Cricket Encounter

Sri Lanka takes on neighbors Pakistan today in their  crucial group "A" World Cup Cricket match scheduled to play at R.Premadasa International Stadium in Colombo.The match which is to play under flood lights as it's a Day Night Game will begin around 2.30 p.m(local time) today.


This is the first time that Sri Lanka meets a stronger team during this years World Cup Cricket Series .They met the minnows Canadian Team last Sunday where the Lank ans secured an easy win.The Sri Lankan Team is captained by Kumar Sangakkara and the Pakistani Team is captained by Shahid Afridi.

Authorities have said that 35,000 fully packed crowd will expect in today's Day Night Encounter.As Pakistan  never lost a World Cup Cricket Match against Sri Lanka during  their previous six meetings today's game will be an acid test for them to keep their record .

Health Minister To Appoint A Special Add.Secretary On Non Communicable Diseases

Health Minister Maithrepala Sirisena has decided to appoint a Special Additional Secretary on Non Communicable Diseases(NCD'S) to minimize   the spreading of these diseases in Sri Lankan Society Health Ministry Sources said today.According to the sources the reason behind the  appointing of a special additional secretary is to organize and  conduct public awareness campaigns on Non Communicable Diseases throughout the Island as the spreading of the diseases are in arise.

Health Ministry has said that 50 percent out of the total number of deaths reported from Sri Lanka during the past 70 years are due to  Non Communicable diseases like Diabetes,Heart Diseases and Obesity.

Awareness Walk On Malaria To Be Held In Non Malaria City?

Although Malaria Patients are not reported from Colombo The Anti Malaria Campaign Officials are Organizing an  Awareness Walk on Malaria in the City Of Colombo on 25th of April  instead of holding it in a area prone to Malaria it has been reported. This Walk is organized to mark the World Malaria Day and to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Anti Malaria Campaign .

Monaragala and Hambanthota districts are identified as the areas where most of the Malaria Patients have been reported but only awareness campaigns in small way have organized in these areas on the day where an awareness walk has been organized in Colombo according to the Health Workers.Even last year the Anti Malaria Campaign had organized a similar awareness walk on malaria in the City of Colombo with the participation of 300 of their district officers.

This years awareness walk is scheduled to begin from Torrington Square in Colombo -07 and it will be heading through Vihara Maha Devi Park in Town Hall.


No One Arrested On Vinu Wettimuny's Murder Case

Although Sri Lankan Actress Vinu Wetimuny was murdered at her home almost a week ago  Local Police still not able to arrest anyone regarding the murder sources said.Police already appointed two investigation Teams to conduct an inquiary on the murder of the Actress.

Police have supected three persons who came to the Actress Wettimuny's house on 15 th of february for her murder.
