Ministry Of Health To Send Further Samples Of Suspected Killer Soft Drink For Inspection



The Ministry Of Health is due to send the samples of  arrested stock of  Soft Drink bottles belongs to the Soft Drink brand which caused a death of a 11 year old girl  to Government Analyst by tomorrow(21).The Soft Drink Bottle belongs to the above brand which is advertised as made from"Orange" caused the death of a 11 year old girl in Polonnaruwa District of the North Central Province on last Thursday and her mother too admitted to the Hospital in critical condition after drinking the Soft Drink.
 These samples of the suspected Brand of Soft Drink  will be send to the Government Analyst to find out whether  there are any harmful chemical or food flavor contained in the Soft Drink the Ministry Sources have said.The Soft Drink Bottle which caused the death of the girl had already sent to the Government Analyst for  inspection                                                                                                                                                  .

Meanwhile the Ministry Of Health under the instructions of Health Minister Maithrepala Sirisena has decided to conduct a workshop for all Soft Drink Manufacturers in the Island on how to maintain International Standards when making Soft Drinks for consumers.This Workshop is due to be held in Colombo during the coming week.

Sri Lanka Recorded Power Packed Win Over Canada In Their Inaugural World Cup Cricket Match

Sri Lanka recorded a power packed 210 run victory over minnows Canada in their inaugural World Cup Cricket match played at the Mahinda Rajapaksha International Cricket Stadium in Suriyawewa,Hambanthota today.Sri Lankan Team scored a mammoth 332 for 7 wickets in their 50 overs and as a reply Canadian Team all out for 122 runs in 36.5 overs.

 Sri Lankan Opener Thilakaratna Dilshan reached 5000th run in his One Day career during his innings of this match and Mahela Jaywardena scored fastest 100 runs in ICC World Cup Cricket Match from 81 balls with 9 fours and a six.

Before the Match the newly built  Cricket Stadium in Hamabanthota was ceremoniously declared open by the Parliamentary Speaker Chamal Rajapaksha this evening.As the match played under flood lights Sri Lankan Skipper Kumar Sangakkara won the toss and elected to bat first in the newly laid pitch.

Prabhakaren's Mother Dies

Parvathi Ammal the mother of Former LTTE Rebel leader Valupillai Prabhakaren died this morning at the Valvitithurai Government Hospital after prolonged  illness.After the defeat of LTTE she and her late husband were reside in Panagoda Army Camp under the Military Care and after her husband died she went overseas to stay with her children for a short period.

However she later returned to Sri Lanka due to her illness and receiving treatment at the Valvitithurai Government Hospital since then.

Upeksha Still Receiving Medical Treatment

Popular Actress and MP Mrs.Upeksha Swarnamali who is admitted to Sri Jayawardenapura Teaching Hospital in Kotte is still receiving Medical Treatment for her injured eye after beaten by her husband over a domestic dispute hospital sources revealed today.MP Swarnamali was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday morning with facial,eye and body injuries .

Meanwhile her Husband Mahesh Chaminda who is the main suspect  in connection with  assaulting of  the MP is reported as  missing .

World Cup Cricket-Sri Lanka To Encounter Against Canada In Tommorrow's Curtain Raiser At Hambanthota

Sri Lanka to take up minnows Canadian Cricket team in their inauguration Cricket Match played under the  10th ICC World Cup Cricket Tournament  to be played tomorrow(20th)in the newly laid Mahinda Rajapaksha International Cricket Stadium at Suriyawewa,Hambanthota(Southern Sri Lanka).This is also the First Cricket Encounter to be played at the Stadium after it's inauguration.

This is  the 03rd Cricket Match of the World Cup Cricket Tournament and  Kumar Sangakkara will Captained the Sri Lankan Team while Ashish Bagai captaining the Canadian Team.

Government To Increased The Import Tax On Potatoes

The Government has decided to increase the Import Tax on Potatoes by Rs.20 per Killo Gramme with immediate effect.Earlier a Import Tax of Rs.10 imposed per a Killo Gramme of Potatoes.

 In the Local Market a Killo Gramme of Potatoes marketed  in various prices and the Price is expected to increased following the increasing of the Import Tax.

India Handed Over 21 Arrested Sri Lankan Fishermen To SL Authorities-Arrested Another 4 SL Fishermen

Indian Coast guards today handed over a group of 21 Sri Lankan Fishermen  who were held in Police Custody for entering in to Indian Waters illegally to the Sri Lankan Navy.The group of Sri Lankan Fishermen and 5 trawlers belongs to them were handed over to the Navy at the Indo Lanka Mari Time Boarder.

The release of Sri Lankan Fishermen taken place  following the release of 136 Indian Fishermen who were Imprisoned here.

Meanwhile in an another development 4 Sri Lankan Fishermen who are the residents in Guru Nagar in Jaffna  were arrested by the Indian Coast Guards after crossed in to Indian Waters and handed them to the Tamil Nadu police for questioning.
