UNP Parliamentarians Were Attacked In Down South


A Group Of Parliamentarians belongs to the Main Opposition United National Party(UNP)along with their Supporters and  the Media they accompanied were attacked by a Group of People believe to be the Supporters of the Governing United People Freedom Alliance(UPFA) this noon at Deniyaya in Southern Sri Lanka.The attack came when the UNP Parliamentarians were visiting the alleged Presidential Palace which is under Construction in the area.

Meanwhile in another incident An unidentified Group  set fire to the  Election Office of  UNP Parliamentarian Range Bandara at Madampe in the North Western Province .

General ICU Of The Karapitiya Hospital Shut Down

Admitting Patients to the General Intensive Care Unit of Karapitiya Teaching Hospital in Southern Sri Lanka put into halt since yesterday due to the Malfunctioning of the  Air Condition System of the Unit.The Air Condition System of the Six Bed ICU was not working properly during  last Six Months according to the Hospital Officials.

When try to contacted for getting further details on the situation the Director and the Deputy Director of the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital which is the largest Hospital in Southern Sri Lanka were not available for comment as they were out of their Offices.

Around 1000 Houses Were Destroyed At Puttalam Due To Winds

Around 1000 Houses  were destroyed and 14 People got Injured due to the Stormy Winds strucked at Puttalam District in the North Western Sri Lanka this Afternoon.Out of the Destroyed Houses  500 Houses were destroyed completely and people got injured due to the trees fell into the Ground according to the Provincial Sources.

The Injured got admitted to the Puttalam Base Hospital. Strong Winds and Heavy Showers prevailed in the District for few hours sources further added. These Days Strong Winds  and Heavy Showers are experienced in  most parts of the Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile the Sri Lankan Meterology Department said today that the Prevailing Windy Conditions will slow down in next couple of days time.

Sri Lankan High Commission In India Attacked

The Sri Lankan High Commission in Indian Capital India was attacked by a group of Protesters this afternoon causing damaged to it's Property.Around 15 Protesters supporting Sri Lankan Tamils attacked the High Commission Building and throwing Stones according to the Foreign Media Reports.

Police were rushed to the scene to dispersed the Protesters.However no arrests being made so far in connection with the attack.

Aged Sri Lankan Population Over 60 Years To Be Increased In 2041

Sri Lankan Population Experts predicted that by the year 2041 Out of total Sri Lankan Population 24.1 Percent will be over the Age of 60 Years  and it will be highest rate in South East Asia.This Population Rate will become Third Highest in Asian Region Behind Japan and Singapore the Experts added.

As the Aged Population increases the demand of addressing their Physical and Mental Needs and Protecting their Social Security too increases According to the Dr.Anil Senanayaka the Director of Elderly ,Youth and Disabled Affairs of the Ministry Of Health.

Australian Government Deported Nine Sri Lankan Illegal Immigrants

Australian Government yesterday deported 9 Sri Lankans who were held in Christmas Island after been captured while trying to enter to the Country Illegally.All  9 People  deported are Sinhalese according to the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Australia Mr.Senaka Walgampaya.

These Sri Lankans along with another large number of persons travelling through a Boat towards Australia when the Australian Authorities captured them in last November.They are all related to the Fishing Industry and came from coastal areas of Negambo,Marawila and Kochchikade and they are seeking Refugee Status in Australia it has been revealed.Another large Number of Sri Lankan Illegal Immigrants who were captured by the Australian Authorities are currently undergoing a Screening Process in the Christmas Island.

National Drug Policy Is To Be Submitted To Parliamentary Select Committee Next Weak

Much talked about National Drug Policy is due to be presented to the Parliamentary Select Committee on 8th of October to get required  Amendments Ministry Of Health had Announced today.After getting necessary Amendments The Drug Policy which was approved by the Cabinet by  October 2005 will Published in National News Papers before 01st of November to get Public Opinion Ministry Sources said.

After going through this Process the Policy is due to submitted to the Parliament for approval.
