Cuban Epidemiologists Extended Their Stay In Sri Lanka

Two Cuban Epidemiologists who arrived Sri Lanka last morning for a One Weak inspection Tour have now decided to stay here Three Months to help Health Ministry to overcome the lapses occurred in the National Dengue Control Programme.The two Epidemiologists Dr.Arminas Martinez and Dr.Yellina met Health Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva to day and hold discussions on activities of the National Dengue Control Programme and the Technical Matters related to using of Cuban made BTI Bacteria here.

The two Epidemiologists brought the Samples of the Bacteria to the island which helped Cuba to curb the Dengue Menace.They are schedule to visit the Dengue Alert Areas in the Island.

Galle Minicipal Council Opposition Leader Shot Dead

The Opposition Leader of the Galle Municipal Council Dushantha Rathnayaka was shot dead by an unidentified gunmen in Galle this morning.Assassin came from a Motor Bike.

Police launched a Search Operation to arrest the Assassin.

IMF Provisonally Agreed To Grant Rs.2.5 Billion Loan For Sri Lanka

International Monetary Fund (IMF) says today it has provisionally agreed to a US 2.5 Billion loan for Sri Lanka and pending final approval for it on this Friday.

As the news of IMF loan broke out, Colombo Stock Exchange(CSE) has been recorded it's highest turnover for the Month over Rs 1 Billion as Investors buy Blue Chip Shares.At the end of the day Stocks were up by 2.5 Percent.In the first 30 minutes of to days Share Market Rs.290 million worth turnover was reported.

Muched Talked About Cuban Epidemeologists Arrived Sri Lanka

Two Cuban Epidemiologists arrived Sri Lanka this morning to discuss on Importing BTI Bacteria to the National Dengue Control Programme in the Island.Soon after arrival they begun talks with the Health Ministry Officials on the Technical Matters regarding the using of this Bacteria and left for Hambanthota District in Down South this eve to inspect Dengue Mosquito Breeding Places there.

However Kandy,Colombo and Gampaha Districts are identified as most vulnarable areas of spreading Dengue and when comparing to these Districts Hambanthota is less Prevelant Area according to the Epidemeologists.The Two Cuban Epidemeologists Dr.Arminaz Maertinez and Dr.Yellina were due to arrive on last Saturday but due to delay of their Connecting Flight from Paris made them arrive today.

Polonnaruwa Hospital Stopped Performing Dialysis Treatment-Lives Of Kidney Patients Are In Danger

Performing Dialysis Treatment for 700 Kidney patients in Polonnaruwa District of the North Central Province stopped since last January due to the severe Shortage of Dialysis Kits Hospital sources said.Due to this the lives of these Patients are in Danger sources further added.

Polonnaruwa District have the highest number of Kidney Patients and one aptient needs to undergo Dialysis at least twice a weak Doctors stressed.If they have to get this Treatment from the Private Sector one have to pay Rs.40,000 per month.Even the Hospital Authorirties requested the Medical Supplies Division Continuouesly to supply the required Dialysis Kits they are not taken to supplying it as they too are not having enough stock of it authorities said.Polonaruwa Hospital is the only Hospital in the District with Diallysis Facilitiy and having Four Dialysis Mechines.

International Red Cross Closed Down Four Offices In Eastern Province

International Crescent For Red Cross(ICRC) closed down their Four offices at Eastern Province on last Friday.According to the ICRC they closed down their offices at Akkaraipaththu,Batticloe,Muththur and Trincomalee as their previous announcement of Scale down their Operations in Sri Lanka.

ICRC however decided to continue their mission on IDP'S in Sri Lanka further.

The Trading Floor Of CSE Re Opened After A Year

The Trading Floor of the Colombo Stock Exchange re opened for Public today after a lapse of one year to accommodate several Brokering Firms offering their Services to Prospective Clients.It was re opened by Deputy Finance Minister Sarath Amunugama.The Trading Floor was closed down for a Year.

Meanwhile Stocks at the Colombo Stock Exchange gained Second Consecutive Day with the ASPI closing up 28 Points.
