Sri Lankan Authorities Ordered Controversial Ship Captian Ali To Leave From Sri Lanka

Sri Lankan Authorities today ordered the Controversial Ship Captian Ali which entered to Sri Lankan waters ilegally last week to leave the Island without unloading it's cargo.The Syrian Registered Ship carrying 884 Metric Tonnes of Food and Medicine was seized by the Navy after it Entered into Sri Lankan Waters Illegally.Defense Ministry says the Ship carrying these Essential Goods for the defeeted Tamil Rebels in the North.


However the Ship titled their mission as the "Mercy Mission To Vanni".The Foriegn owned ship began their Journey from Port Ipswich of U.K on 20th of April and carried the Essential Items donated by the Tamil Community in U.K.The goods are loaded to the Ship on 07th May at the French Port Fos-Sur-Mer weeks before Sri Lankan Forces defeeted LTTE Rebels.It has been reported that without getting permission the Ship with 15 crew members including former Sri Lankan Monitoring Mission Member planned to travel to the Coast line that was under Rebel Control at that time.

New Chief Justice Sworne In

Justice Asoka De Silva Sworn In as the 32nd Chief Justice of Sri Lanka this morning before the President Mahinda Rajapaksha.He replaced the outgoing Chief Justice Sarath N De Silva.The Sworn In Ceremony held at the Preident's Office in Colombo.

New Chief Justice is having 37 years Experience in Legel Field.

President Gave Amnesty To 585 Military Deserters

Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksha today granted pardon to 585 Jailed Military Deserters to mark the Poson Festival an Important Day of the Buddhist Ca lander falls today.

President who is also the Commander In Chief of the Armed Forces gave Amnesty to the Military Deserters who are sentenced a Maximum of One Year Jail Term after been convicted by the Military Court.Many of them are had few months to be released and they are selected for Amnesty as they shown a good behaviour while in jail Government said.

Many of the released Military Deserters are from Colombo Main Prison.


Sri Lankan Buddhists Celebrated Poson Festival To Day

Sri Lankan Buddhists all over the World celebrated the Poson Poya Day to day a Religious Day in the Buddhist Calendar here to mark the arrival of Buddhism to Sri Lanka.Venerable Mahinda Thero of India Brought Buddhism to Sri Lanka when King Devanampiyathissa is ruling the Country.

Sri Lankan Buddhists gathered to the Temples to day to Perform Religious Activitees to Mark Poson.President Mahinda Rajapaksha too attend the Main Poson Poya Festival held in Mihintale at Anuradhapura District of the North Central Province.

Alms Giving Centres(Dansala's) situated throughout the Country served Food to the People and Pandals and Decorated Lanterns are displayed at Houses on this day.

Dengue Alert Level In Sri Lanka Raised As Deaths Incresed To 108

Eighteen Dengue Deaths were reported throughout the Island within last Thursday alone making the Health Authorities to raised the Alert Level on the Disease and implementing new regulations on destroying Dengue Mosquito Breeding Places.With the New number of Deaths the Total Number of Dengue Deaths reported throughout this year are increased to 108.Around 7890 Dengue Patients were reported up to last Friday.

Most number of Cases and Deaths were reported from the Colombo District according to the Epidemiology Unit.Health Authorities with the help from 5000 Members of the Civil Defense Force and the Police are conducting special Inspections on Dengue Breeding Places throughout the Colombo District on this weekend.

Yal Devi Train Resumed It's Journey To North

Sri Lankan Train 'Yal Devi"to day began their first journey to Tandikulam in the North after 20 years.The Train Services towards the Northern province were suspended due to the LTTE Threats and the war prevailed there at that time.Due to this from last Twenty Years Train Services were only running towards Vanni District.

Transport Minister Dallas Alahapperuma and few other Ministers were among the Passengers who are in the board of Yal Devi on it's Maiden Journey to Thandikulam.The Train reached the destination in Five and Half Hours.

Six Foreigners Including Three Australians Captured From The Sri Lankan IDP Camps

Sri Lankan Authorities yesterday Captured Six Foreigners including three Australians who were among In Displaced Persons (IDP'S)inside the Welfare Camps of Northern Sri Lanka. Government announced that the Three Australians captured are facing more than one year detention and there will be no special treatment or early release on them.Other foreign Nationals captured including a British,a Danish and a Norwegian.

Sri Lankan Authorities are Screening these Foreigners to find out Whether they are linked with LTTE.Meanwhile the Australian Embassy in Colombo says that they will try to gain counselor Access to the Three Australians believed to be Dual Australian/Sri Lankan Nationals.
