Missing Sri Lankan Editor Is In Police Custody



A Confusion arises when the Editor In Chief of the Sri Lankan Tamil Paper reported as Missing this morning.Earlier it was reported that the missing Editor of the " Suder Oli 'N.Vidyadaran was abducted by an unidentified gang who came from a White Van and Police too confirmed it. But few hours later Police Issued a statement and state that he was arrested by the Police for questioning in Connection with the Last weak's LTTE Air Attack in Colombo.

Police Officers arrested him at Mount Lavinea Area in the Colombo Suburbs around 10 this morning while attending a funeral of the relative of the Chairman of his Company .

Meanwhile The Reporters Without Borders to day Condemned the arrest of SudarOli Editor and urged Government to Guarantee his safety.Media Minister Lakshman Yapa Abewardana already assured the Reporters Without Borders through the Telephone that Mr.Vidyadaran is safe and he is held by the Colombo Crimes Division for Questioning .Crimes Division is questioning him regarding the two reports published in the 'SuderOli" Paper on 6th and 11th of February.

Sri Lankan Business Tycoon Remanded Over Rs.26 Billion Public Freud


Sri Lankan Business Tycoon Deshamanaya (Honorary State) Lalith Kotalawala and one of the Directors of his Golden Key Credit Company were Remanded till 11th of March by the Magistrate of Mount Lavinea this evening regarding the Public Finnancial freud Case he was involved in.Magistrate also Issued a Ultimatum to Settle Rs 26 Billion worth Deposits of the Golden Key Customers within 10 days.A Warrent for Mr.Kotalawala's wife Mrs.Cecilia Kotalawala who is also a member of the Golden Key Company's Director Board.

Mr Lalith Kotalawala the Owner of one of the Largest Business Companies in Sri Lanka the Ceylinco Group is charged for mishandling the Deposits of Public in the Golden Key Credit Company which he ownes.He even tried to Settle the Depositors Interests by selling his shares of the Bank he owned the Seylan Bank in last December however failed to do so as Central Bank of Sri Lanka Immediately intervened and taken the Bank under their Perview.

Kelaniya University Closed Down Due To Student Clashes


A clashes between two rival Student Groups led to the closure of the Kelaniya University to day.Vice Chancellor of the University decided to closed down the university until further notice.
Police were called to the University Premises and they used Tear Gas to disperse the Student Protesters.One student injured during the clashes admitted to the Hospital.

This is the second time in last few weeks that the Student Clashes erupted between the rival Student Groups of the University.Last time Police arrested some student protesters including Lecturers and Female Students who were not involved in the clashes.

Colombo Public Health Department To Sue Governing Body On Spreading Dengue


The Public Health Department of the Colombo Urban Council issued a notice to Government owned Land Reclamation Department stating to clean all polluted Canals come under them in the city which became Dengue Mosquito Breeding Places or faced Legal Action."If the Department is not taking any Measure to clean the Canals in one weak's time we will Sued them "The Chief Medical Officer of the Colombo Dr.Pradeep Kariyawasam said .

Three Children in the Modara-Mattakuliya Area of the Colombo Suburbs died due to Dengue During January and February this year as Health Authorities charging the polluted Canals as responsible for this.Ninty Percent of Reserviours in the Colombo City are Governed by the Land Reclamation Deapartment.These Canals are polluted heavily and became Dengue Mosquito Breading Places Dr.Kariyawasam Stressed.


Dengue a Dissease which is an Endamic in the Sri Lanka now spreading fast in the areas of Colombo Suburbs due the polluted Canals he urged.Last January 105 Dengue Patients reported from the City with majority of them are Children and Three Children died from the Disease.In February 55 Dengue Cases reported up to now and one child was died due to the Dissease.Majority of these Dengue Patients were reported from the Modara- Mattakuliya Area.


Dengue Mosquito Eadis Egipty caused the Dengue Dissease and Increasing number of Mosquito Breading Places in the Urban and Rural Areas seen as the main cause for spreading the Dissease.

Ministry Of Health Hospitalized 242 IDP'S In Last 48 Hours


Director General of Health Services Dr Ajith Mendis said to day that yesterday and to day they admitted 242 wounded and sick Internal Displaced persons(IDP'S) to the Hospitals of Vavuniya and Mannar for further treatment.Adding that these Civilians are wounded while they fled to the Government held areas from LTTE held areas Dr.Mendis stressed Some having gun fire wounds,cuts and broken arms and legs .Another 400 IDP'S are due to hospitalized tomorrow for further treatment he added.
Meanwhile more then 50 Doctors of various parts of the Island are currently involved in treating of IDP'S in the North he further said.

Mahela And Thilan Broken The Fifty Two Year Old Record Of The Fourth Wicket Partnership



Sri Lankan Cricket Captain Mahela Jayawardene and Thilan Samaraweera to day broken the fifty two year old fourth wicket partnership of 411 runs at a Test Match set by Peter May and Sir Colon Cowdrey of England in 1957.Mahela and Thilan put 437 runs for the fourth wicket at the second day of their First Test Match with Pakistan at Karachchi National Stadium and spared 643 balls and 450 minutes to reached it.

Previous fourth wicket partnership record between May and Sir Cowdery in 1957 was set against the West Indies at Edgbeston.


Captain Mahela contributed 240 runs for the partnership and it was his fifth double century and first one at a foreign soil.Thilan contributed 231 runs.Earlier the pair broken the highest fourth wicket partnership of 298 runs recorded in Karachchi National Stadium which they are playing now by any team.

With the help of this duo Sri Lanka reached 644 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in their first innings and declared the innings shortly after the Tea Break.At the close of play Pakistan were 44 runs for the loss of 1 wicket.
