Colombo National Hospital Defeated U.K Hospitals On Number Of Neuro Surgeries Performing


National Hospital in colombo take one year to perform the amount of neuro surgeries performed by the high tech equipped U.K hospitals within six years it has been revealed.an english hospital with seven neuro surgeons performed around 700 neuro surgeries a year compared to the 4500 such surgeries performed by the two surgeons of the national hospital under limited resources hospital sources said.The senior consultant neuro surgeon of the hospital dr.sunil perera said that indian hospitals are not performing such an amount of surgeries even they are having high quality technology and enough surgeons.

GMOA Charged Health Ministry On Irregularities While Purchasing Pethidine Injection Vials


There is an illegal dealing while purchasing the pethidine injections as three hundred sixty thousand vials of above injection were removed from the government hospitals after expiring them assistant secretary of the government medical officers association(GMOA) dr.upul gunasekara charged today.addressing a packed press briefing in colombo to day he said that the worth of these removed injection vials are around rs. 1.8 million.due to the removal of these vials there is shortage of this injection at the government hospitals these days.
only two hundred sixty thousand pethidine vials were used at the government hospitals in year 2007 but the health ministry ordered four hundred thousand vials of the injections which is more then the required for the use of 2008 he stressed.purchasing more then the required amount may be the reason behind expiring them before using he pointed out. dr.gunasekera also said that it is sad to see health minister nimal siripala de silva who is also the current chairman of world health organization is offering more drug tenders to the supplier who supplied most number of low quality drugs to hospitals.
He also urged health minister to implement national drug policy to prevent irregularities on purchasing drugs in future

Neuro Surgical Patients Facing Difficulties Due To Broke Down Of Several Machines In National Hospital


The Neuro Surgical Patients and the staff of the Sri Lanka's Major Government Hospital the colombo national hospital are facing enormous difficulties due to the broke down of several several million rupees worth neuro surgical machines in the hospital including the MIR scanning machine,the Angio gram and all the cratiotome machines use for cutting the surgical point.
Due to this the MRI and Angio gramme Tests of the neuro surgical patients of the national hospital are done through the private sector.
Around 4500 surgeries are performed in Colombo national hospital annually and it is higher then in some of the hi/technical hospitals in United kingdom.
Therefor not taking any measures to repair these machines from long time is unacceptable according to the Hospital Sources.the MRI Scan machine is broken due to the problem of it's tube and four Cratiotome machines were broken a month back and Neuro surgeons are now cutting the point of the surgery from hand used equipment which is harder to do doctors said.
C.T Scan Machine in the neuro surgical unit is also prone to break regularly due to the overload of the scan tests performed through that machine they stressed.when contacted Hospital Director Dr.hector weerasinha said that the repairing of MRI Scan Machine is due to finish tomorrow but he is not informed on breaking down of other machines in neuro surgical unit

Governing UPFA Recorded Land Slide Victory In The Two Provincial Council Elections


Governing United Peoples Freedom Alliance(UPFA) Secured a Land Slide Victory At the North Western and Central Provincial Council Elections Defeating Main Opposition United National Party(UNP) in 37 out of 39 Electorates in the Two Provinces.UPFA Won 4 Districts out of the 6 in these two Provinces and Secured 60 Seats against UNP's 37 and Janatha Wimukthi Peramuna's (JVP) 1 Seat.
Elections Commissioner Dayananada Dishanayaka Annulled the Election Results of the Polling Station in Puttalam District due to irregularities reported during the poll Delaying the Final Result of the North Western Provincial Council further.

Sixty Percent Voter Turn Out Reported In North Western And Central Provincial Polls


A Sixty Percent Voter Turn Out was Reported at the Time of Completion Of the North Western And Central Provincial Council Elections of Sri Lanka Held To Day Despite the Reports Of Several Election Malpractices in Some Districts.Around 26 People were Arrested Due to Voter Intimidation and According to the Election Monitors Pafferrel they Received 40 Complaints on Election Malpractices.However only 15 of these Complaints are Confirmed.
Voting of the Two Elections were Concluded Around 4 p.m this Evening and the Sealed Ballot Boxes Taken to the Counting Centers Situated in Schools of the Above Provincial Districts for Counting.The First Election Result is Expected to be Release After Mid Night To Night.
