Ninty Five Eating Houses In Colombo Received Awards For Excellance Out Of Eight Hundrad


Out of Eight Hundred Registered Eating Houses in the Colombo Municipal Council Area Forty Six Eating Houses received "A" Grade Awards and another forty Seven Houses received " B" Grade Awards under the New Catagarisation System Introduced by the Colombo Public Health Department .Cinemon Grand Hotel is Awarded as The Best Hotel Among the forty six "A" Grade Winners and also Received the Award for the Hotel with Best Kitchen.

Hotel Trans Asia and Hotel Ceylon Continental are placed Second and Third Places Respectively among the "A" Grade Winners.These Awards along with the Certificates were Distributed at a Ceremony held in the Cinemon Grand Hotel This Morning (23).

When Grading these Eating Houses 10 Facts including the Nature of the Building,Nature and the Hygiene of the Kitchen,Hygiene of the Kitchen Workers and Preparing and Storing of the Food Items taking into Consideration.

Around One Million People are Entering the Colombo City for Different Purposes everyday and this Catagarisation is Important for them as most of these entrants are Consuming Food From these Eating Houses Colombo Public Health Department said.

Prices Of LimeStone And Plastering Cement Are Increased


Prices Of OPC and Portland Limestone and Porcelana has been increased By Rs.25 and Plastering Cement by Rs.23 per 50 K.g Bag says Ministry Of Trade today(22).

Colombo Municipal Council To Filed Legal Action Against Seventy Eight Poor Quality Eating Houses In Colombo City


The Public Health Department Of the Colombo Municipal Council decided to take a Legal Action against 78 Eating Houses in the Colombo City found as unhygenicaly Preparing and Storing Food Items.Chinese Restuarants,Hotels , Medium and Small Scale Eating Places are among these Poor Quality Eating Houses According to the Chief Medical Officer Of The Colombo District Dr.Pradeep Kariyawasam.Court Cases will be Filed against these Eating Places within Next Week He said.These Eating Houses Located in Northern Colombo,Central Colombo Divisions 1 and 2 ,Borella,Kirulapana,Narahenpita and Bambalapitiya.
Food Inspectors attached to the Central Food Control Unit of the Colombo Municipal Council Found these Poor Quality Eating Houses when they Inspected 153 Eating Houses During Last Week .

Those Who Are Not Taking Medication For High Blood Preasure Are On Increase


According to a National Survey Carried out by the Non Infectious Diseases Control Unit Of the Ministry Of Health 20.1 Percent of Sri Lankans who are Suffering from High Blood Preasure are not taking any Medication for the Disease and they are at Risk of Getting a Stroke in the future.Out of this number 16.1 Percent are having Systolic Blood Preasure Rate more than 140 and 4 Percent are having Preasure Rate more than 160.Among those who are Curently Not taking any Medication for the Blood Preasure 22.6 Percent are Men and 17.6 Percent are Women According to the Findings of the Survey.

Twenty Five Percent Of Sri Lankan Population Are Found As Overweight Or Obessed


Twenty Five Percent of the Sri Lankan Population found to be overweight or obesse According to the Latest Research Carried out by the Non Infectious Dissease Control Unit of The Ministry Of Health.

According to the findings in this Research 19.6 Percent of Males and 30.4 Percent Females are Overweight or Obessed Dr.Lakshmi Somatunga the Director Of the Non Infectious Disseses Unit said yesterday(21).

This Research is carriedout among the Age Group of 15-64 .4.8 Percent of the Population is reported as Overweight and Among this 3.6 percent are Male and 5.9 Percent are Females it has been revealed.Lack of Exercise,Low Consumption of Fruits and Vegetables and Large Consumption of Starch are the Main Reasons for this situation Dr.Somatunga stressed.
